Suggest a bike for my mate
He's 5ft7
Wants an mtb to ride with his lad who's 10.
Aesthetics is important to him (doesn't like the look of gravel bikes ) and currently looking at black
Budget is around £300
I'd rather not allow him to buy anything with cheap bits on it
what'd you suggest or is anyone closeby with something that might fit the bill in v good condition

At £300, I'm not sure there'll be any other kind of bits except cheap if he buys something new.
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: Suggest a bike for my mate
I bought one of these for one of my boys when he was a similar age. Obviously not top end stuff, but surprisingly not too heavy. Got back almost what I paid when I sold it.

Thanks Stu... he actually had a budget of 300 to 400... I'm hoping I might push him up a few more quid to a Pinnacle or Vitus at 450 and 500 respectivelyBearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 12:57 pm At £300, I'm not sure there'll be any other kind of bits except cheap if he buys something new.
Hopefully sime legendary rider with an N+1 rule going out of control might just offer up something too.

Sorry Graham.. I forgot to specify... the bike we're looking for at the mo is for himself (his little un should be sorted)ssnowman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 1:06 pm I bought one of these for one of my boys when he was a similar age. My lad outgrew a 24” wheeled carrera abyss at 10 years old (still have it lurking in the shed if anyone wants one) I brought him an Inbred with a 14” frame from Stu, I needed to change some parts, for instance changed the cranks for 150mm and a shorter stem but he’s got a decent bike which will last him as he grows.

Marin Pine Mountains around that price on Chain Reaction. Rigid so won't have worse than useless bendy forks. Very dark green so almost black. #steelisreal

Re: Suggest a bike for my mate
My lads abyss was a cracking little bike, it’s a bit like a 29er for really small people, 24” wheels when most bikes that size would normally have 20’s. He progressed almost instantly with the bigger wheels and it wasn’t a big heavy lump.Dave Barter wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 5:33 pm I know there will be a lot of hate..but with British Cycling discount this is £360

Some of Halfords bikes seem decent and good value but general the shops are sub standard.
