Bentley Components/dRj0n top tube bag DeWidget

Post by drjon »

a limited number now available...

Image

If you want one, they are £10 + postage. this is non profit to me - i'm just interested in seeing them out there being used! i would suggest postage is tracked of some sort as i would not be able to replace if they get lost.

Details:

they are a black delrin material. so far for me it has proven very durable and smooth even if muddy. http://plasticwashers.newprocess.com/pr ... er-washers?

they do not have a bearing in them anymore - just a simple bushing designs.

they take up about 9.5mm of real estate on a steerer - id suggest mounting above the stem though in theory they should work below as well.

they seem to work best with 2 loops of self-sticking velcro - one through the usual daisy chain on the ‘gas tank’ style bag and one sort of at 90° to this through the slot in the DeWidget.

It goes without saying this is a new part and it may never reach any sort of full production. feedback is very welcome!

Drop me an email if you are interested at velopest at yahoo dot com

Best, Jon.

Yeah like the idea of that. Dropped you a mail Jon

Would be good to "hook up" with Alpkit to integrate it into their fuel pods

Do they require 9.5mm of steerer or will they be ok sitting on less and just pop the headset cap on top?

they will be fine with less. ideally more than 5mm to 'capture' the top half of the inner piece. the way they are made is a top hat on the lower, and a top hat upside down on the upper, with the rotating ring a close fit on the uter diameter and held in place with the brims of the hats? so the two top hats are about 5mm tall each. if the upper top hat isnt held in place it may still work, but might not be quite as durable?

Ok folks.

New fangled 3D printed #DeWidget, left, old skool cool proto, right
So the DeWidget has seen a little update. Mark has been kind enough to put the design on Shapeways. You can see them here https://www.shapeways.com/product/HMU4T ... d=64528199
and here
https://www.shapeways.com/product/RRUFH ... d=64527860.
You would need one ring and two 'top hat' parts to make a complete DeWidget. The price is a little more, due to the addition of another company in the chain, but - IT NOW COMES IN COLOURS!

I have a black one in hand that has a slightly textured feel, but this in no way harms function. The white is also a textured surface whereas I believe the coloured ones are 'smooth'.

Shapeways have a facility in the Netherlands and one in the USA, so if you are ordering abroad, it should actually work out pretty good.

Do pass this info on if you wouldn't mind, cheers.

just a bit of an update on the #DeWidget - Andy at https://backcountry.scot is going to start stocking them just as soon as i get the next batch in the post to him. Price should be a little under the Shapeways cost - and you can always browse his excellent webstore for some other goodies!

As a bonus, you get a sticker in the bag...but you have to supply your own doublesided velcro or shock cord.

hello everyone! these things seem to sell out pretty quick - so I thought id leave a heads up here - all parts back in stock at https://backcountry.scot/product-catego ... -bagworks/ - Andy also has some Billl_block and Ted_block - which are plastazote bag spacers, in 3 sizes with 2 slots for 20 and 25mm strapping.

Be excellent to each other!
