Sounds like my run to the shop and back last night...20mph all the way there....5 all the way back.

Today's rain and wind was perfect to test my gear out. Long range forecast is holding up. I'm very hopeful I won't have to test my gear again.

I'm OK with any direction. Shrewsbury and Knighton may have more options for my Friday night stay.

@KT - I'm in Shrewsbury if you need a place to kip. There's a train that goes to Knighton @ 05:16 Saturday morning for departure just after 6.

If we're going the other way (Dovey Junction towards Knighton), there's a train leaving SHR @ 06:25 and arriving at DVY @ 07:55 for 8-ish start.

Let's keep an eye on the direction of the wind - I honestly don't fancy slogging into the wind again...that was brutal.

Thx Scat - only if it's not too much trouble as I don't want to trouble you guys. Would be great to socialize the evening before the big ride anyway. I'll plan to stay over night in Shrewsbury then and we can go either direction.
Finishing in Dovey Jct might present more train options to rerun to London.

I hear you on the wind. If we are going East to West, it will be against us day one and with us day two.

No trouble at all. Mrs Scattamah is OS at the moment...so as long as you can deal with me for an additional little bit of time, it's all good.

vaguely exciting! I think learning to deal with each other will determine the success of this trip :)

How far are you from the station?

Working on my packing list. Should I carry a just-in-case tent or go for the Bothy with an emergency bivvy? And should I bring my portable stove + dry food. I have an Alpkit Brukit.

I carry my tent...if I'm not pitching it, I use it as a ground sheet under my mat in a bothy. As to the stove - if you want to eat hot food, I'd say carry it - there's no cafés out there.

I have to attend to the Mrs next weekend as she will be recovering from a medical procedure. Gutted that it's come last minute and bang on the weekend I was planning.

My other options are Dec 22&23, or Dec 27&28. Hope this works!

Leaning towards 27/28 as recovery might take longer in some cases.

No trains out of London on 26th, so 27/28 are out. (frustration setting in slowly)

I'm holding off on this thread and trip for now until I find a more suitable date.
