I'd come but I'm up in the Lakes then.
Probably without a bike, most definitely with family.
Pictures of the inside please.

I'm free over the weekend (think 28/29th) and may be able to wangle more if that works

Any idea how you actually get there as there seems no obvious path?

Looks like you can link up a few sheep tracks from the north, but no idea how you'd get back out.

The route in from the north from Pont Elan looked quite defined when I drove over the mountain road the other day. "Defined" is a subjective term, but compared to some welsh bogs I've experienced this one looked pretty obvious ;)
Alternatively, off piste from the top of a Roman Camp.

My plan is to set off from home sometime Sat morning (although I'm not fully decided on route yet) and tootle back home on Sun morning, I might even find a cafe ... cunning eh?

If anyone wants to join me that's fine or if you want to find your own way there that's fine too. If you'd like to experience the true horror of Welsh bogs go with Matt ;)

I'll join you if that's ok Stu?

Do we need to sort out bringing wood/coal for the fire?
I'm assuming there will be nothing there and we may arrive a little damp :o

No trouble at all.

We'll need summat ... I'll take a look at the long lasting pretend logs in Mach' tomorrow. I'm told each one burns for 2.5-3 hours and they're a lot lighter than coal or logs.

Never ridden in this area before so would ideally need to tag along with someone if possible..

Explorer 200 covers the area ... which has been known to contain some boggy bits ;)

How far do you want to ride Jase? You're welcome to ride with Chew and me, we'll be setting off from SN871976 which depending on route could be 30 - 40 miles. The other options would be to ride in from Rhayader (I could send you a gpx if you wanted) or maybe meet us somewhere in the middle?

That would be great if i could tag along with you & Chew, thanks Stu.
Will it be 30-40miles each way or round trip?
I'm ok with a map, but not really up on gps's & such. It's about time i learnt though & will look into borrowing one :geek:

30-40 miles each way.
Me and Stu ride at a steady pace, so about 5-6 hours of riding/pushing/bog snorkling

From Rhayader it would be a case of following the reservoirs up the old rail track to the top dam and then somehow finding a route to the Bothy. From what i've read its abit boggy that side and theres no 'path' to the bothy so you would have to find an off piste route.
