tbh I'm mildly surprised that flushing toilets have reached the IoW.

Confession time - turns out the Gower peninsula isn't in the north west of Wales where I thought it was

No chance I'll be able to get down there for a saturday morning start I'm afaraid so I'm also out. Have a great ride all. :-bd

That’s okay, I once confused Carmarthen and Caernarfon when accepting a university place 25 years ago. Worked out in the end though…

Friday night camping.

We'll aim to leave the pub at 8:30pm and head to the coast

If late follow this GPX
We'll aim to camp somewhere along it

https://my.viewranger.com/route/details/NDA1OTk5NQ==

In the morning we'll go find a cafe out of the rain.

Sean and I are leaving Soton around 4pm (hopefully)
So hoping to be at the pub for 8pm ish

I was planning on cycling the Icknield Way, but got pinged with a weather warning yesterday. After the two hour thunderstorm we had on Tuesday, I don't think I want to be out cycling in that for two days. I think I might just watch the Olympic cycling instead...

It'll be fine. I'm fairly sure none of us is made of salt.

'course it will :-bd . Just get on with it, SBS, and revel in the rain (see below  note that I'm on roads not tracks ). Am jealous. Although "yellow rain" sounds a bit worrying - might be more likely with more planes going overhead. Best take sou'westers to save getting literally pissed on.

It will have to be, just booked my ferry ticket. A few last minute questions:-

Will I need my water filter or will we pass enough pubs/cafes/taps?
Head net/smigdge required?

Absolutely.

It changes every two minutes anyway and it's often/usually not as bad as the forecast...

Neither water nor midges should really be an issue Sean.

Don't know what you're all worrying about, a few isolated thundery showers will be the least of your challenges on a stunningly beautiful peninsular that is one of Wales' busiest destinations, and on the first weekend of the school holidays too
I love The Gower, would have loved to be able to join you this weekend
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Having finally got my bikepacking mojo back last weekend, I’m not about to ruin it by getting soaked this weekend, so for that reason, I’m out. Have fun all.
