Seems a massive shame to ride that route flat out gurning and sweating to bang the the miles out, although I suppose you can say that about most long-distance timed events.

I'd be very partial to riding the route over say 6 days with beer stops and banter.

Maybe we can all park at the bottom of the broken road and set off from there?
