Re: Mach' winter bivvy. VENUE CHANGE!

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Right then Dec 10th/11th it is then ... we'll work the details out a little nearer the time but it'll no doubt be noonish meet up in Machynlleth on the 10th.

Again, everyone welcome, just make sure you're well prepared ... now I've said that, it'll be the warmest Dec on record ;)

I can't make the 10/11th as I've been informed I am going to Lapland  to see Santa.

However, I am not sure if I'll be fit enough by then anyhow in all honesty

It's about time you told those girls of yours that Santa and the tooth fairy aren't real. ;)

I know it's very early (although the Christmas chocolate has appeared in the shops) but I might get chance for a little winter bivvy scouting this weekend and wondered if anyone had any specific requirements, eg trees for swinging, etc.

I'll take care of the obvious ones like a water source but is there anything else?

I wouldn't expect a great distance, maybe 10-15 each way ... think this might turn out to be more of a celebrity chef experience than owt else ;)

Trees duly noted!

Snow notwithstanding, it'd be nice to be able to ride right up to the bivvy spot, rather than the portege of last year.

Some people are so fussy  , I recall it was about 100 yards of frozen ground ... I could have you made everyone go through the ford rather than use the bridge.

haha I think it was a relief seeing that crop of trees when you said that was our dwelling for the night :D

I just don't know how I dragged my heavy weight of a bike up there

But the bonus was it made me realise I needed a new bike, well basically new everything!!!

You guys :ugeek:

Okay then ... Dec 10th outside the Spar in Machynlleth around noon. Don't expect an epic but do bring some lights. Should be back in Mach' for a late breakfast on Sun morning.

Overnight spot will alter depending upon numbers ... there'll be trees for hammocks and room for tarpage but space for tents may be a touch limited. There will be water nearby and wrap up ;) Oh and I'm working on mars bar fondue at the moment.

CHANGE OF VENUE!

The Mach winter bivvy will now be the LLANIDLOES winter bivvy. Times and meeting spot remain the same - Noon outside the Spar in Llanidloes NOT Machynlleth!

Llanidloes works for me - any info on where we'll be going? I wouldn't mind sorting out some mapping

Possibly into Hafren, Explorer 214 should cover the ride.
