Anyone out on Sunday testing gear/bike/self to destruction then?

.... I, er, seem to be otherwise engaged on Sunday. Most unfortunate. Obviously I'd be out there if not. I'd like to know if my Marmot is windproof to 60mph. Ideal BB event weather I reckon!

A Shaf-style contest then: who can bike in the highest wind?

Reg I'm attempting that over the Saturday. Bit busy on Sunday unfortunately. Good contest. Winner gets, well, another day of life (or gets to die another day).. anyway, you know, hopefully we'll be saved from this storm...

Maybe Stu should put on an event just for Sunday

Dave should be south of the worst weather. Forecast looks to be moving the nasties northwards.
I’m currently in a bivi in Blandford Forest and its very benign. Wonder what will cook up in 24hrs or so.

I'm doing my BAM tonight with the intention of getting back here before it kicks off tomorrow afternoon. I'm happy I'm a weather wimp....

Top stuff folks. I now have this image of you all being blown back home at Benny Hill speed with blurred pedals  .

Possibly pursued by scantily-clad members of the opposite gender. Hmm... getting into deep water here, so, er, anyway, erm... good luck people!

The BBC forecast has 109 mpg winds for freshwater tomorrow lunchtime, ideal weather for a ride

Well if you raise a bike sail you could be in Bembridge in, what, 12 minutes then? Fastest-ever IOW bike crossing?

(mpg = miles per gale? )

Ops, didn't spot that  It's a southerly so if I do go along the south coast at least it will be blowing me onshore and not over the cliff

That assumes the trains will be running.

Was planning to fat bike up the coast from Liverpool to Southport with a fantasic tail wind.

Then jump on the train south (into the head wind) :-bd

Unfortunately there's maintenance work on the line, so I doubt I'd be allowed to put my Fat Bike on a bus replacement service.... So I'll most probably stay in bed for once on a Sunday in that case

I’m currently in Sheffield and complete train cancellation is looking distinctly possible. Hell of a headwind, no tools or waterproof, on a lock anywhere tourer.

There is a hint of one at 8:55 and in my twisted mischief this feels like a win win situation.

Was gonna ride home to Grantown tomorrow (easy I imagine) and back to Aviemore on Tuesday( definitely not easy!!) might get the bus☺️

So my fortunes were with getting a train, but I still got a taste of the storm riding back from the station. It felt like I was riding on a treadmill. At a point I did a gust powered two wheel skid into the middle of the road, then had a branch the width of my bars fall two seconds ahead of me. Loved the power it was displaying and shifting my “I’ve had worse” bar to a daft extreme, would definitely have been the hardest ride of my life had I needed to go the distance.

My ride to and from Derby/Nottingham yesterday, had me see the beginnings of the gusts. Luckily I was only 5 miles from home but, as soon as I heard the gusts (not having felt em but heard then) cause a set of 'metal swivelly car-garage advert thingies' to go into overdrive swivel mode, I knew I had to get a move on.

Twas around 2200 last night and trying my best not to get shoved into traffic - my route being north-east to home - was interesting to say the least. Especially since (on the basis that some car drivers are either really thick or oblivious to whats happening on other side of their closed door windows) the wind was what felt like trying to take out my rear wheel. Thankfully I was home before long and on the final climb - which I usually walk for the sake of it - the wind gave me a couple of good shoves up the hill...
