Kielder - Sept 2/3

Post by Pyro »

I'm marshalling at the Kielder 100 in a couple of weeks time and planning to bivvy out before and after. Anyone else heading up to it and fancy joining in?

I'd advise you to use the bothy as kielder is rammed with midges!
I was tail end Charlie last years and they were awful.

Hmmm. Might be an option. Any idea of locations?

We're being briefed at 8pm so it'll probably be a ride out afterwards once I know where I'll be stationed. Taking the Phoxhole which has full mesh cover so should be alright. That and a bottle of Skin-so-soft...

Firstly this was the rider briefing last year, marshalls are indoors so dont bother hanging around for the rider briefing theres nothing of great intrest as you'll have heard it before at every other race briefing.

Bothie are as follows
Kielderhead NY 666 980
Blackburnhead NY 779 945
wainhope NY 671 924
Kershopehead NY 544 862

Of the four, Kielderhead would be the easiest to get to as it'll be dark by the end of your marshall briefing, it's fairly easy to find, kielders a big place to navigate in the dark! Unless your marshall point is west towards Newcastleton then Kershopehead is your best bet.
Take all over cover otherwise you'll be scratching for days. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
You'll probably have more than one marshall spot, once the Tail End Charlies have been through you'll be shuttled to somewhere else, etc. etc.

Cheers fishy. I've been to Kielder many a time for orienteering and long-ago XC races, so I'm prepared for the midgies. If it's going to be a pain I'll probably just take the bag and doss down by the car somewhere, might be easier. Ah well!
