Winter bivvy, Scotland

Post by Borderer »

Is it too early to start making a plan?

I haven't managed to go on one of these yet. I just know that I would like to this year.

Well they're already selling Christmas cake and Santa outfits in our shop round the corner (next to the Halloween and Nov 5th stuff!) so it can't be too early can it? . Last year I think we started 'organising' ours in July!!

I wonder how many separate geographical groups we can get this year? (says he a bit guiltily, after suggesting then shifting allegiance to a new "Salop" winter bivvy group  ).

That probably rules it out for me as I'm Glasgow 13th/14th to see Skipinnish.

Borders if Colin isn't going??
Ben Alder area using Culra bothy
Duinish again
Could do a Fife bivvy in the place at Falkland - I could make enquiries about getting it 'officially' if there is going to be a gang of us

Time again for a return Southwards I'd say but I'm leaving it for others to decide this year. I'll try to do a coal drop if I can.

Fraser and I should be up for winter bivvy trip.

Could be a gathering of the young team if Fraser and Joe make it.

That might lower the average age to around 59.

That sounds great :-bd

Yes lots of southern bothy options - might be good if we are all coming from the central belt or south.
Dryfehead or Greensykes both have three rooms (two with heat sources) or Roughside is huge and might be fun. It has lost its former dodgy rep and is a nice place now - it is in England though so it might not work for the Scottish meetup!

Just make sure not to inhale while staying there!

That place last time was good, or we could go to one of the Arrochar / Loch Lomond ones?

 Big fan of Larson. I like the two deer chatting to each other, both standing up on hind legs of course, with one having a giant archery target on his chest. Other one says "bummer of a birthmark, Hal". In fact I actually had a mug at one time with that one printed on it. Or the three-scene one, with a field full of cows. First scene they're also standing around on hind legs talking and one shouts "car!". Second scene, car goes past with all the cows on four legs chewing grass. Third scene, car gone, all the cows back nattering again. For all I know that's what Cumbrian cows do anyway Bob! It's fun everyone all having their own personal favourite ones.

My favourite is Professor Schwartzman's dog translation device - there's a bit of depth to it.

Yes but the most people attending any Scottish winter bivi I've been to is 6, not exactly a mob Colin. We always ask people to bring alternative sleeping arrangements too.
