We will keep then 3 dates flexi and in that preceding week Paul, just mention it again and we can change it to the Tuesday/Wednesday (unless Fargoist is happy with swapping them dates over now and make it 22nd/23rd just now?? )...
Glad we have 3 riders now for -the second of the year - groupstart. Means we only need 1 more person and if everyone turns up we'll be able to contact the GBOWR...

If we look to start from Castleton visitor centre there is plenty of free midweek parking on the main road.

I would prefer an earlier start as it helps avoid the M1 traffic and makes reaching Baslow coop a little easier.

But if 9.00 is preferable that's fine too.

I would prefer an earlier start than 9 so 7.30 is fine with me.

Just to throw in future options for folk. I started midnight at Chelmorten, easy parking.
7ish hrs to Sickleholm Service Stn at Bamford 24hr. Plus then all the other on route supplies are in the day time
Taps that are easy to find at Parsley Hay Stn, Fairholmes at Ladybower.
Have a great ride, it is achievable but break it down into bite size chunks.

I finished!
That was the hardest bike ride I have ever done. The heat was brutal.
Started with Steve, but on the second climb (jaggers clough) it was obvious that I could not keep to his pace.
My heart rate has close to max and took 45 minutes to drop to a sensible level.
I plodded on at a slower pace, still targetting curbar as my bivvy spot.
Climb out of Charlesworth and the one to Chinley head were horrible. I am never doing them again.
Had a break at the Anglers Rest around 7 and was not too far behind target.
The heat was less now and I could press on.
Slowed up through Gratton Dale, too overgrown to see the rocks.
Did not make Baslow that Night so stopped on the lower part of the climb toward Chatsworth at 11.30.
Had an entertaining night with the thunderstorms.
After Stocking up at Baslow Coop in the morning, I was soon able to pick up steves tracks in the sandy trails along Cubar and Froggat edges. I think he camped just after the set of gates on the climb.
Followed those tracks all the way to Cuthroat Bridge, where I took a diversion down to the Ladybower Inn for lunch.
Went back Via the rocky climb as I did not fancy the A57 uphill with lorries.
I knew the rest of the route pretty well and expected to finnish by 4pm.
Finally rolled back to the van at 5.30, the heat had slowed me down again.
It was my third attempt at the route, I am glad I finished it.
I promised myself several times never to do a foolish thing like this again, but looking back it would have been a great ride without the heat.

Well done dude... The climb out of Charlesworth... Is it the same one you are referring to which goes up and is a mssive HAB from Birch Vale on the Pennine Bridleway i think. Thats the one that totally demoralised me but I think mine was a little more than 'demoralised'.. The heat seemed to have just stiffened up my muscles and possibly trying to keep to the pace (which was nigh on impossible) of Steve from before Hadley/Charlesworth - where he met me - might have had something to do with the muscles playing up...

I really was sure that I wasnt the only one that would throw in the towel with that heat so a double :-bd for both of you. Amazing ride of which I'll be back. Gonna male a little loop to practice tha HAB a little more from mine and back!...

Oh... and for reference. From Birch Vale and up, then a little detour on the left which leads to Phoside farm. Thats where I found fresh flowing clean lovely tasting water (after I'd scratched) and its possibly what helemd me get back to 'the normal folk'...

Without the cool down of that micro waterfall I'd really have struggled even more than I was doing at that point.

 happy with that introduction intot he world of 200km mtbing (maybe I'll work on the TLS rule for next time)

Was nice to meet you both.
I had an interesting ride, I made good progress on the first day and was at Balsow by 8 but figured I had all of Wednesday so I would camp on the ridge above where there's a nice spot I have stayed before.
This was massively dumb as woke up at 2am to lightening which felt like it was striking the ridge all around me. I don't know how close it was but it massively unnerved me so grabbed my stuff and went and sat in the porch of Baslow church until it passed.

Wednesday I cycled the route to Stanage but was not feeling very motivated so dropped off route there and made my own way back to my van by 9:30 for a sweaty drive back South.

It was nice to get out and thanks for starting the thread as it gave me a bit more motivation to cycle otherwise there is no way i would have gone out when it was that hot.
