Peaks200 (23/24 July) groupstart: Who else is in??

So... Based on this here thread viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7527 and the fact that it was a tough challenge that Ian put together, coupled with the fact that all this latest dotwatching has possibly got people spurred and raring to go (albeit on a micro scale as opposed to the TD or HT550).

I'm proposing a KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) groupstart Peaks200 ride. Date I had pencilled in was 29th. But that would just be boring, a saturday and some might not even be able to stay long enough to see the sun come up (maybe they're that fast).

So - although its work in progress - anyone up for it. Maybe start at 8pm at a decent location (or maybe just the start point: sorry I dont know rules of this or some others very well) and hopefully everyone would be done by early hours of Sunday morn...

Only 2 criteria I personally have: 1- please can we start from somewhere thats not a pub :-bd and 2- please can someone help me setup my phone to calibrate with trackleaders as I've yet to be able to afford a Spot (InReach actually).

So, who's in. Dont everyone talk at once :???:

As taken from the first line of that above thread, Hopefully this thread here will once again spur Ian into action to take ownership :-bd or at least a little input...

Also taken from that 2017 thread. AFAIK this is still the final version of the route (from above thread again):

Just 2 other pertinenet things/questions...

We'll be starting in Edale (1)....

Does anyone know if its a clockwise loop (meaning it hits past Bakewell on the way out) or anti clockwise (so passes near Bakewell on the final legs to the end)... (2)... ??

That is the weekend before the Jennride, so not possible for me.
I struggle with weekends off as I am a humble shopkeeper. I would favour starting early on a Monday or Tuesday.
But don't let my awkwardness sway you.

Nope... your awkwardmess would not bother me at all and in fact might work out for me... if we dont hear anything back from anyone else we could just as easily push it forth a couple of days and make sure it potentially gives some BAMJulys in return :-bd

Tonto. If we dont hear anything back from any other Bonafidas ( I coined that myself... is it any good :geek: ) then we shall indeed swap it round to coinicide with 'not the weekend'...

Hiya. The outer loop is anti clockwise and the inner loop is clockwise. Resupply options are quite time limited. There is a new coop in baslow open till 11pm which might help avoid a detour to bakewell.

It’s a great route. Don’t underestimate it it’s very tough.

Names so far

Shafiq
Tonto (potentially)

@paul of the valley... yup I'd read about it being a to7gh old cookie this ride and hence am wondering if I'll make it round (even if my bike survives the trauma and grit/mud/clay... whatever it is that puts a stop to this here ride!)...

So I've spoken to Paul/Tonto.

Seems he is free on 25th and 26th. So thats the new dates.

If anyone is wondering, it will be an ITT rules ride so hopefully we will have another (heres to hoping) couple of groupstart ITT finishers :-bd

Lets wait for Paul to confirm what timings he's available for and we shall have a start time shortly

So I am in with Shafiq.
We are now starting in Castleton as the parking is easier.
Provisionally at 7am, but if anyone wants to join us, than this is flexible.
Go on! you know you want to!

. I'd offer Graze bars or better to next 3 entrants but it might break them itt rules :-bd

Messaged Ian Fitz (creator of the Peak200) to tell of our intentions and confirm he's happy with an ITT attempt anywhere on the route as startpoint. His reponse (part of the response):
----------------------------
"I had tweaked the Gpx to include both trails at cannings (intending that to be the start- not essential though) to ride one at the end and one at the beginning".

--------------------------------
So looks like we might be the first to be trying out the new virgin route as a groupstart. I imagine it'll be slightly more challenging too :-bd and hopefully that might just have wet someone appetite

Watch this space for the new route...

Thought to give a little update... Tomorrows groupstart will only be consisting of 1 rider afterall

Well done Tonto for keeping to the gameplan and giving it the ITT shot and hopefully it'll all go swimmingly...

*Reason why I've not made it is cos pf a nasty fever but will be attempting it very soon (imminently and probably within the next 3 weeks or so)...

I'd be up for a group start on this loop at somepoint. Gonna need more notice though. Be nice to get a full event together.

Got a mate doing it next week also.

I am only free midweek, so a bit awkward for a group start.☹️

Nope... thats not awkward at all... I actually prefer midweek myself as weekends for me can be a bit more lilely to find work (and pay slighrly better) but am good either way..

Hopefully once we have some hands up and some dates we can pick the appropriate (either midweek or weekend) date and take it from there... I don't think weekends (the Yay its Friday thread notwithstanding*) are appropriate to bikepackers right...

*I still always wonder if I've used that word appropriately :o

Ie... if you're free for the ride/groupstart :-bd throw em on...

I'm busy on:

8th/9th/10th of July (but might be able to sway the 10th and 8th if needs be)

5th/6th/7th july (unless a charity ride gets cancelled as it seems the organiser mate of mine has bitten off more than he can chew)

Booked in for work this saturday and on monday :-bd

I'm interested, depending on how I do on the jennride, so obviously can't make the 6/7. I can make mid week, but a few days to recouperate after the jennride.

I am also doing the Jennride, so perhaps a week or two after?

Yup... makes sense. Hopefullyby tomorrow we might have more interest - whats the stats again: theres only ever been 1 finisher?? - and in a better position for that lovely date being set :-bd (says the guy who's only ever maxed out on an mtb ride, unloaded, at 50ish miles  )...

Maybe Ian might even get chance to pull out the new final-final edited route. I didn't bother him ovee it cos 1. he seems super busy and 2. I reckon he's only gone and made it slightly harder
