Newborough forest, Anglesey

Post by ootini »

Now my digestive system has returned to a level of normalcy, I'm itching to get out and make up for missing the WRT. I'm considering getting a train to Bangor, then cycling over the Menai Strait on to Anglesey and then following the quieter coast roads to Newborough forest. Kipping in the forest and having a mooch around Llanddwyn island, see the ponies etc, then in the morning heading NW to pick up a return train from somewhere like Valley.

I'll probably be doing it this weekend 11th and 12th if anyone fancies it ?

FYI, I'm not on a fat bike, so won't be heading on to the sand myself, but if you have a fat bike, you really should treat yourself to Newborough beach and Maltraeth.

Soon as I can ride again, I'll be heading over that way, but further round, towards Traeth Ynys y Fydlyn.

Nowhere near as likely to bump into the eejuts that sometimes frequent Newborough..

Shame really, as it is an ace spot.

It was great. Loved it. Longer than expected, and I got sunburned. But I had Llanddwyn to myself, but also learned the Wales coastal path, isn't a path, it's the f**king beach. So I spent a bit of time pushing the bike over the rocks at Bryn Siencyn, then pottering around the roads. The main road is NOT fun to share with cars.
As with any trip it was a learning exercise and there's no such thing as a bad trip.

Yes...that A4080 is a dreadful road inhabited by awful drivers. Have you seen 'lon las cefni'?

Its an all offroad route from llangefni to newborough
