Thanks to Reg, Northwind and Stu .. copies will be on the way to you shortly.
Cool, just thinking I need a light hearted read to balance out the heavy duty stuff I've been ploughing through of late. Are we your target audience though?

Finished dinner (or 'tea' rather) a while ago. I'm sure you can picture the scene: enormously long thin table - quite a few yards long probably - Reg at one end, Mrs Perrin at the other. Complete silence apart from gentle clatter of cutlery, etc. One candle on in the middle.

All done. Now what. Mrs Perrin: "go and amuse yourself and stop annoying me". Reg: "yes dear".

Hmm. Twiddles thumbs for a bit. Sigh.

Loose end? Go and play with the StuStoves!

Get all three out, 8g, 12g, 22g, and line them up. Baby bear[stove], mummy bear[stove], daddy bear[stove]. (Limited Edition 18g one is stored)

May as well prep for next week's BaM. Not used mummy stove for a while so let's try that.

Mrs Perrin's draining board, don't tell her please. 18ml bioethanol (vodka bottle empty) in 12g stove, 500ml Toaks Ti pot with 400ml cold water. Ambient temperature 15degC. No wind, no windbreak.

Set fire to it. Bloom time 1 mins 14 secs. Pot on, lid on. Rolling boil almost exactly 10 mins. Use water to wash dinner plates.

Image

Lovely bit of gear. Although I do think it's quite a lot more susceptible to draughts than the 22g even with a windbreak - had it go out on me a few times when out in the field.

Complete cookset and 2 breakfasts of porridge and ovaltine all fit in the pot and weigh exactly 300g excluding water - Ti pot, Ti windbreak, Morrisons 350g tomato and pasta sauce bowl/mug, card/foil stove pad, Ti spoon, 12g stove, 12 matches (only need 2 really  ), 36ml fuel, ovaltine and porage.

Image

Now what. (thumb twiddling etc etc).

Ah I know......

Well I reckon a meths stove is the conflagrationary equivalent of vinyl listening. Infinite subtlety and nuance.

A gas stove is the equivalent of Spotify/youtube listening. No subtlety or nuance whatsoever.

So your gas stove does not sit well with your vinyl/wine leanings Stevo  .

porage or porrage(?) ..
it that what you get, Victor meldrew style-ee after bubbling over or burning porridge?
'I don't believe it...'

Margaret Meldrew : You won't be able to have porridge for your breakfast tomorrow; we're out of milk.

Victor Meldrew : Hmph. I'll have pow[d]ered.

Margaret Meldrew : We're also out of porridge.

Victor Meldrew : Aaaah. Well, I'll have something different.

Margaret Meldrew : What?

Victor Meldrew : Hmmmmm. I think I might try worms and toast for a change.

Margaret Meldrew : We'll open a new can in the morning.

Victor Meldrew : Yes, we always seem to.
I hope you think you know, what I might of exactly meant.

Cheery Friday.... Annoyed Sunday. For some reason Daily Hatemail headlines appear when I open a new google window. Today's: "Cyclists use middle of the road for the first time under new Highway Code".

Bloody hellfire. Firstly, for years we've been advised to do that whenever we feel '1m from the kerb' doesn't keep us in a 'safe' enough position, eg when passing minor roads or coming up to junctions or traversing roundabouts etc. In built up areas it's almost a constant. Bikeability has been teaching that for over ten years.

And secondly it's not middle of the bloody road it's middle of the lane. Plainly they've chosen 'road' on purpose since it comes across as far more inflammatory than 'lane'.

That vile slice of toilet paper is not fit to be used as, well, toilet paper.

A few years ago while in a well known supermarket there was a promotion for the Daily Hatemail and one of the promoters offered me a copy
" No thanks '

" It's free. "

" I wouldn't wipe my arse with that "

So I totally agree Reg

I wasn't particularly Cheery, but now I am  .

But tonight the rules have changed. I'm not going to tell you why I'm Cheery, you have to work it out  . Anyone who happens to be called FrogAtTheFarriers is not allowed to enter. Here we go:

Back later to see how we're getting on

Oh alright, just a small clue. You'll know I'm easily pleased...

Decided to give the newish Gurkha takeaway at Brecon Golf club a go (open six days a week from lunchtime onwards, if you're passing, just saying...).

It was stonking.

Belly busting, taste buds exploding, mouth on fire kind of stonking, highly recommend.

Turned out to be a father daughter outfit living in our street.

Definitely cheery Friday

You're going raving? Bad news, whoever sold you those E's has pulled a fast one and they're just alka seltzer

On a slight tangent (I know unheard of here) but I've just switched the TV on and Susan Calmam is on, in Devon. Now that on it's own isn't my reason for cheeriness, but it reminded me that on the Gower trip last year we spotted her, and her camper van (Susan) in the background and they were filming.

So on a future episode there's a chance there will be Boner's in the background

Not bad guesses at all there.

Steradent - could have interesting consequences if chewed
Viagra substitute - could have even more interesting quincequonces if swallowed
E's -
Laundry - that's about the closest, nice one Verena!

The reason Mr Farriers wasn't allowed to enter is because he gave them to me, what a nice chap! Made me very cheery finding them in my gear again this evening. Then again, maybe he was obliquely passing comment on my, er, aroma after a couple of days in the saddle, because they are in fact:

Image

Yes, towels. Just add water. Both Eric and myself posed the same question at exactly the same time: "er, aren't towels supposed to dry you off not make you wetter??". Lu then claimed they were flannels after all  . So that's a nice toy to play with next BaM outing, thank you Lu :-bd .

I once arrived late at my parents, and my dad gave me a small travel tube of "toothpaste", which turned out to be a sample of denture fixative cream! Very disturbing sensation as I brushed my teeth and everything started to turn solid

thenorthwind wrote: Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:52 am Missed the Slovenia discussion last week. We went a few years ago. Fantastic country. We travelled around a lot (basically a big lap of the country) but you'd need a car for that, and for most trips for that matter.

Bohinj was lovely. We went through the tunnel on the car-train to the Soça valley, which was fun, and the Soca is beautiful, well worth it if you can get there, either via the tunnel or the Vrsic pass. Can recommend an amazing little bar in Kobarid where the owner produced a wheel of local cheese that had been maturing and offered it round the bar

... from where you are I'd probably try to explore more of Triglav national park... . You're not far from Bled, which is the tourist honeypot to end all honeypots, but it's worth a look - maybe if you can get there early in the morning for a couple of hours.

We stayed at a "tourist farm" - a farm that hosts visitors, not where they grow tourists! - and the food was absolutely incredible....
For this cheery Friday...
...
Hopefully by later today I'll have a smoother more level garage floor too.
Hi TNW, I hope the garage floor went OK. Smooth tarmac, how did the Mtb or Gr'o'vel bike cope?
Thanks for the travel tips. :-bd
I thought I had doffed my hat at you, but evidently not.
and.. thank for the warning about Bled, honey pit of honeypots, like Edinburgh, Windermere, Whitby and Torquay (& others) combined when UK flights were banned descending on Bakewell.... (or other small UK destinations, in the Wallace Arnold brochure  )
