'No night riding' rules?
What's going on? - I've noticed mention of two events in Europe that state, no night riding. I understand that riding at night might present a slightly higher risk of injury or accident but really - What next? Will they outlaw the wearing of bin-bags for fear of suffocation?
May the bridges you burn light your way

I should enter a race with night bans, I'd feature quite well in those

Really? I've not seen this yet. Part of the whole fun of this is riding at night when you're zoned.Bearbonesnorm wrote:What's going on? - I've noticed mention of two events in Europe that state, no night riding. Yours,
Confused.
Re: 'No night riding' rules?
Is it the case that night riding is predominately a UK thing and thus something Europeans may think to exclude?
Same as riding in the rain?

Ha, no riding in the rain, no riding at night. Just need a "B&Bs / Hotels Only" rule and I'm sorted for comfort.
Re: 'No night riding' rules?
I wonder if they also have a rule that you have to carry lights?
The French Divide basically said "we discourage riding at night because it's more dangerous, it's not a race and you can complete the course without riding at night BUT equally we can't stop you".

Certainly not from an audax perspective where we're considered a bit on the soft side for running almost all our 200k rides during daytime. Although we do get some credit for liking our audax hotels over a proper community hall concrete floor for a bit of a nap.Chew wrote:Is it the case that night riding is predominately a UK thing and thus something Europeans may think to exclude?

Insurance? Not sure if the events in question have any, but I know the guy who organised the Kielder Chiller 24hr and it took him 2 years to find an insurer who'd touch it once he mentioned riding in the dark.

Must be R.A.P.H.A events. Need to wash their fancy garments ready for the next day's riding!

Something else to be considered is wildlife.
Many animals are (more) active out in the dark or twilight.

Surely we all know by now that they always carry a fresh, laundered set with them

I can change it to people wearing "Team Sky" kit if you like, equally awful.
