Veloviewer costs £10 or £20 for the year depending on level so not a lot really. I go through little spells of doing rides to increase my score. I live in Derby so plenty to go at here and I just need to do a square just to this side of the rail station to increase my score to 29x29 which I hope to do before the year end.

My plans are:

to make top 10 Veloviewer explorer leaderboard (currently 10th place is 30x30)
Entered jennride, BB winter event, Gravel Rocks
SR series under audax rules
May do Duo Diagonal in Belgium
Possibly another big bike packing race
bivvy a month - not completed for a couple of years now.
PBW - never done Northern section.
C2C - not sure which one

I'd never really looked at the explorer score on VV, but had a gander this morning. Mine is 6x6 but there's a few isolated squares that prevent it from being way bigger, so I have a nice little xmas project now...

Also just seen the VV explorer thing, looks like it could be a fun one, currently on 10x10 but should easily be able to expand it!

Planning on starting Bivvy a month, also have signed up to my first Winter Event, and I'm hoping to make a better route for the WRT (will remember spare brake pads this time!). A tour (sorry) of NZ is happening in Feb as well. Generally hoping up up my riding next year versus this year, had to take a few months off this year but I'm back on it now!

After a woeful few years I'm planning on:

BB Winter Event (5 years since last one!)
Dirty Reiver (scared!)
Cairngorms ITT
Dirty Boar (maybe - not entered yet but a planned boys weekend)

An open water triathlon of some sort (hopefully with trail running and MTB)

Swimming the lakes in Snowdonia (as evening walks in the summer) - need to see how many there are so a loose plan at present

Some more trail running and I'll have a look for a few events to try too

Getting out with the boys more this year for some wild camps in the hills

Nice!

This is a bikepacking route/event/happening/thing that I've been putting together with an eye to a group start next September.

Life hasn't dealt me sufficient time to get the website finished yet and the route (specifically the bad weather and bailout options) needs refining but the bones are there (pretty much just variations on the two existing routes).

Though it's not finished take a look at:

I'm also new to the velo viewer explorer score. Currently on 10*10, 1 more square will get me 11*11, and another 7ish will get me 13*13. Looks like I'll be running & riding in some curious parts of south Yorkshire in the next few months!

The jenn ride was one of my favourite trips last year alongside the Cairngorms loop which was my first big ride. Had a great year year but it fizzled out a bit at the end.

Achievable 2017
Ride more km than 2016
Bivi a month
Cairngorms loop
Lakes 200/jenn ride
Ride from my house (Peak District) for fish and chips at the seaside.
Bivi out with my daughter on the tandem (she's 7)
Yd300

Hopefully 2017
Sub 24hour peak 200
Plus a decent stab at the
Peak 300
Lakes 200
PBW

Well that's the wife told/asked/grovelled to.

Fat biking in Iceland in July/Aug is 95% confirmed. When she's talking to me again I'll sort out the other 5%

My main plan is to be out for more nights, this year has been hard personally and professionally, my riding has been mainly day rides. In 2015 I rode lejog on my dummy, wild camping and about 25% of it off road. This trip made a big difference to my life outlook, although it didn't save my then 20year old career. So...next year I'm going to ride the ridgeway and possibly SDW, and aim to bivvy a month (although I won't actually bivvy as a telemark 2 only weighs < 1kg) , I really want to get back into the wilds of Scotland generally just chill out, you know the crack.
We’re all individuals, except me.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

Simple enough:

* Attempt to not unintentionally kill our child due on April.
* LL200 SS
* BGR
* Prep for second, faster, TD run in 2018

I have a few plans...

Hope to do a 200km day

A couple of low key sportive/charity events up here.

Improve my local 10 and 25 mile TT times.

Booked my flights for the Faroe Islands the first week in June, but backpacking rather than bike packing due to logistics.

Early September hope to do either NW coast of Scotland on road ; Aberdeen, Inverness, West coast to Scrabster, Orkney and back to Shetland. Or, Mtb a route from Inverness up to Durness, Scrabster, Orkney and back to Shetland.

I'll be happy with that

Here is my list.

First af all I'd like to read a lot of books, as I used to, and finish the new bike build. Ride the NC500 in 2 days but I'm struggling to find dates.

January: Strathpuffer (I was on a waiting list and committed suicide on 31st December hehe)
March: Battle on the Beach
April: Tour of Flanders (cycling to the start)
April: Braunton 150
May: Jenn's ride
May: Highland Trail Race (last minute change of plans)
June: Capital Trail
July: MB Race
July: Salzkammergut
July: Sudety Challenge or North Cape 4000, as I was unlucky with the ballot system for the Transcontinental.
August: See my family
September: UK single speed Champs
October, November and December: Keep riding.

I'm registered for all events except Capital Trail, Sudety Challenge or North Cape 4000 and UK SS Champs. Everything on 1 gear. Hardest probably MB race

Generally,
1: Improve overall distance/time on bike. This last year was the first I kept records (never had a computer on an MTB before) so I will have something to build on.
2: Joined up for bivi a month. These last few years have seen a big reduction on nights under canvas so need to man up a bit.
3: Getting older and a bit stiffer, so build a stretching regime into daily life, like I did in the past when I was a climber then hill runner.

More specifically,
March/April: Tour of the Matra, Bukk, Zemplen hills and forests in NE Hungary. It will be good contrast to where I live on the Great Plain (Puszta).
April: Going to try for WRT by bringing forward trip back home.
May: Cairngorms Loop, Maybe just outer, maybe outer and inner loops. Off road tour West of Scotland, probably starting in Dunoon heading north.
June:. Have permission to be away not sure what yet.
July: Family holiday, might get the chance to do some day trips in the Mecsek hills in SW Hungary, done a bit of walking there but no biking yet.
August: Slovenia West Loop. It's not that far away and been meaning to go back to Slovenia for a while. Loved the ambiance there as well as the climbing.
September:. Torino-Nice. Hopefully the above will have got me in shape, the plan is to just plod along at a comfortable pace. Have done some mountaineering on both French (Maritime Alps) and Italian side, looking forward to getting back.
October on, last year I lost impetus so this year just try to keep getting out as it gets colder and wetter.
Looks like a lot but this will be my first full year of retirement and would like to make the most out of it.
P
Edit. Finished last year with a few regrets at what was not done, hopefully a plan will work in keeping me focused so if I try to wimp out I'll need a good excuse!

Do you have a route planned for this Dave? My mates trying to talk me into LeJog next year (also the product of a drunken day out!), I'm thinking a gravel/cx twist on it could make it a plausible idea in my head!
