List of dates 2017

Post by Mike »

Has anyone got a list of the event dates for 2017 yet? Damn, it's that time of yr when I have to sort out my leave for next yr already :0?

We could do with a bike packing calander that shows all the bike packing related events that are now popping up through the year.
Who could do such a thing?? Hahahaha

Any dates would be good I mean to write them done as they happen but always forget

I did one for last year - do a search - in response to HopeValleyPaul's request about a suitable date for the Peak200 group start. It's a shared Google Calendar. The obvious place to have such a list would be http://www.selfsupporteduk.net/ but that would be more work for Steve.

I imagine that would only list ITT, not other things.

I was slightly undecided on a date for this years Winter Bivvy, the choices are Dec 10th / 11th or Dec 17th / 18th. My preference would be the 17th / 18th but happy to go with whatever.

Not too much work to have some form of aggregrator to pull the info from different sources. The ITTs tend to be "the last weekend in June" type of date which could be added to that table on selfsupported, surely it's not too hard for someone to then work it out for themselves.

Other than those and yours Stu, what else is there? That would be just two places to look then.

I was thinking, Charlies stuff in Dorset, Reiver, T-N and all those things that happen in Europe such as Tuscany. I think the trouble with any list is, it must include everything or nothing at all. If it's not definitive, I'm not sure it's worth having.

I was thinking UK only. Yes it would need to be definitive/complete or as close to that as possible.

Perhaps the problem isn't so much the lack of a list but the lack of someone willing to compile/coordinate such a list.

Why not just start a list and then people can slot the dates they know in chronological order. Then it's constantly live (i.e just copy and paste from above)

e.g

7/8 Jan - Winter Event
27 Apr - 1 May - WRT

These are just rough dates, then just add the others - Braunton 150, YD 300, Peak 200, BB 200

That's that set then - it'll probably be the best date for most people I imagine.

Kick up arse accepted. Ridgeway avoiding the boggy bits plus other trails, ride to Goring as a hub and resupply, there's a co-op and good craft/hipster/pricey beer selection in the shop there? Or from here to Woburn area, drains well alomng the greensands way. Either way, some nice routes from the Ivinghoe end of the Ridgeway that's just off the main line out of Euston. Can plan a spot based on numbers. Happy to concede location and 'planning' if there's a better location.

Jameso, other commitments permitting, if you plan a winter bivvy around the Bucks end of the Ridgeway, or somewhere else in Bucks, count me in!

I like doing the winter event so unlikely to want schlep far for a Winter Bivy, which is why I've never done one. A local one would be great!

In fact, depending where it is I might even ride from home! Ivinghoe Beacon is about 30 odd miles from home

The later weekend best for me. The early one clashes with number one child's birthday

I started sticking stuff on a sharable calander last year but then someone else started one so I thought it wasn't needed - I can dust it off and update it if that's any use :)

10/11th best for me for a winter bivvy.

The other option for a calendar is to add it to the events on xcracer, but then they are visible to a much wider audience.....

You know...I'll sort out the Northern Winter Bivi for the 10/11th if people want.

It may involve a trip to a brewery.

Ok, another "SE" contestant possibly here. Leighton Buzzard. Funnily enough I was thinking of an "emergency" bivi on top of Ivinghoe Beacon in a couple of weekends time. Although I really like the sound of the Welsh Winter Wonder bivi as well. If they were the same weekend I'm not sure I'm up to an overnight Sat/Sun ride of 176 miles to allow me to feature at both. Hmm.

PS> One humble vote for Woburn area ;-). Nice secret spots all over the place there although you'll need a new chainset afterwards cos of the sand. Talk of breweries above: Leighton Buzzard Brewery do "brewery tours" (*) on Saturdays and there's the craft pub in the town.

"only July and I've got the fear of the cold"

I reckon it's colder now in July than it was in December :-). That might be my frozen braincells mis-remembering it of course.
