OS Maps on your phone

Post by JohnClimber »

Have we done this already? If so please delete.

£19.99 a year gonna be cheaper than a GPS with OS amps to buy and download

I've just come across wiki loc app, downloaded the Welsh map as it also has west Cheshire on it. Yet to use it in anger though

Looks interesting. Downsides could be battery life and keeping your phone dry.

If it's on a par with the desktop version then I'd hate to rely on it.

I've used outdoors GB and parks for a while now. It was a fiver for all the national parks at 1:50000, works in airplane mode on an iPhone as well. Other areas you have to pay for e.g Wales at 1:50000 was about £8 I think. Don't use it for on the ride navigation (if I had a dynamo I would) but is very useful for tracking progress on pub stops or getting your bearings.
For 10£ a year you get access to all os maps. And you can save 1000 of their grids for offline use.

I like it.

Or buy BackCountry Navigator app (android) and get OS Maps for free, and legally, courtesy of bing maps.

Outdoors GB is excellent, you can download offline maps for a price or you can go online to view maps and it'll save the area that you've looked at in memory to use offline layer on. The latter is £5 a year.
