2016 YorkshireDales300 ITT

Post by yorkshirebiking »

June 25th till 26th.

Tickets/online booking now open.

Please commit to your ticket booking as "sorry I can't make the ride as I have a wedding to go to" 2 days before the ride meant your ticket could of gone to another rider, but of course I understand last minute no shows are part of ITT rides and the high amount of domestic accidents that happen the day before a BIG ride could result in a few drop outs.

Many thanks.

Uhm .... I'm considering moving to July 2nd/3rd. In fact, I'm going to put a post up asking people to tell me what they want.

I will be somewhere in the USA wandering down the Divide. May ride the route beforehand though over Easter BH weekend.

Its a cracking route and I do feel like there's unfinished business after my well mannered crash led to mechanical based retirement, but its only three weeks after the HT550. Well, the finish of it anyway, so maybe next year :-bd

I entered it as soon as Stu Ridr posted that the tickets were on sale.

To fat or no to Fat that is the question.

Entered.

Really looking forward to it after missing out on a spot last year.

What sort of time did people finish in? Just wondering if I'm going to need Monday off work or not...

Fastest time was 28 1/2hrs, slowest about 36hrs. I took the Monday off just because

I reckoned it was about 40% road, 40% stone track, 10% grass, the remainder being a mixture of stuff. There's very little that might be called technical though Bunton Hush, the descent in to the Gunnerside mines is steep, rocky and hard but it's only about 300m long. The descent off Whernside is mud/rock/stone steps. I think the route is very slightly different this year, there's an access issue on one of the moors

Technically it's an individual Time Trial but you are going to be riding alongside other riders at some point or other but equally you can spend periods where you don't see anyone. Last year I went from my bivvy point at the top of Cam Road to Feizor and only saw one of the other riders as I passed her going up Great Wold, that was about seven hours of riding. Most of the rest of the route I was either riding with another rider or there was a rider in sight.

Looks like it's going to be hard work, I may have bitten off more than I can chew but I'm going to give its damm good go.

I'm in it would be rude not to with it been on my doorstep literally. I'm comfortable I can do the milage although I don't expect it to be easy bit I've never done the bivvying thing before so could be a bit of a learning curve

The bivvying bits the easy bit,
stop!
drag bivvybag and sleeping bag out
fall asleep!

Wake up, pedal!

Must get entered myself to be honest going to be a manic period with caringorm loop, HT550, YD300 then Mille Pennine audax.

Oh and if its on your doorstep its rude not too that's why I did it.

Stuart's posted up the (a) revised route - gulp! http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=shajkmhxbzjkunzq The note at the bottom of the page says that there might be further revisions. Looks like some of the more "intestinal" loops towards the end of the route have been removed.

Not sure if it's gonna be harder, hmm, probably

does anyone know much about ground the up dates route takes out through nidderdale? I may have a look at this before the HT550 and wonder how soggy it will be now for example

The section from Skyreholm over Pockstones Moor is hard packed track, similar to the old section that went to the Pateley - Grassington road. The bit alongside Gouthwaite reservoir can be wet, not boggy, muddy wet but some deep puddles http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3276662 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1024733. Once you've climbed up from Bouthwaite then you are back on hard packed estate track to Scar House reservoir and over to Arkleside, here's some shots of that bit http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4584827 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/344350
