Alpkit (Sonder) bikes.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I see the new Alpkit bikes / frames are available to pre-order ... have to admit that I'm still a little disappointed that there's no steel, only Ti and aluminium.

Been of a Brant design, you'd have thought that a steel inbred type bike would be the first one on the cards

Having rode and tested the Transmitter for a certain magazine - I've placed a pre-order.

Honestly the most fun bike I've ridden this year.

Can not flipping wait for it to arrive.

On One are still bashing out Brant's steel designs. Makes sense (to me anyway) to do something different.

Greg. Did you test the Broken Road as well? That looks perfect for my next expedition bike.

strange geometry on the broken road.

16" seat tube but same length as a 19" / Large Salsa el Mar.
they dont make a seat post long enough for me to ride one!

Transmitter looks more sensible.

You never know. they look a bit like some fat bike dims I've looked at. (usually done as the designers want to get massive stand over to allow for feet sinking in snow I think when people step off)

Maybe. Makes more sense when it says 'designed for a 35mm to 50mm stem.

Aye, mebbe.

Makes the wheel base long though when you go up a frame size to compensate. I bet its stable with a load riding down a fast fire road. Maybe not so nimble in the techy rocks (chain stays a longish too)

Obviously, I'm an arm chair bike designer, so I could be well off.

So just ask brant to build one how you like (in Ti, obviously). That's what Pact is for.

Dave - I got to ride it, not long term test it. I like it, but I prefer my Fargo. Oddly I couldn't put my finger on why though.

..........can run with 29” / 650b up front and 650b+ rear, infact it is our preferred set up.

Wouldn't that give you a wider rear?
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

I'm considering the Sonder Camino Ti, but wondered - What other bikes are available that are similar to this (titanium / carbon)?

We've got a loan of a Transmitter and a Vir Fortis.

They've been fun to ride today in the snow.

I've not really ridden a Fat Bike before so I can't compare to the others on the market.

It was a hoot to ride though. I got up loads of stuff that I wouldn't on a MTB.
