It's a wooden blunt Jay. They were often used for practice in times of yore as they were obviously much cheaper than steel heads but they fly in a similar manner ... like this.

He's got a nice spot there. When I used to live in Monmouth I could ride from work up past his place to get home; all off-road from a place called Llangrove all the way to Monmouth (except for a short section of very quiet tarmac lane past his place)
I like Brian, he's a character and I hope I've still got as much hair as him when I'm his age!!
