GPS for long trip

Hi all
Thinking of doing some longer trips 4 days or so does anyone have recommendations on what GPS to use ?
Long battery life
Easy to use
Etc

I think the answer will be eTrex 20/30 or Dakota 20. Both use AA batteries so that's no trouble, both will accept OS mapping on sd card, both reasonably cheap and both fairly easy to use.

A dedicated GPS is always a good way to go, but an smartphone with Gaia maps is always a very cheap option, throw in a portable recharger and you are laughing.

Thats how I navigated for over 7 months in South America

Yeh I second smart phone with gps app ( if you.haven't already a gps) I use maverick pro with 1:25k OS or cycleways. £30 for a USB power block. Keep it on airplane mode as much as possible and it'll last plenty.

Yep, I think Gaia is about £20, and a USB power block can be had for about £12-15 which will do a couple of charges of a mobile which in the UK is more than enough.

I used one in tandem with a dynamo which came in handy on those long draggy Peruvian climbs for keeping things topped up.

The key is using flight mode and flicking on gps as and when you need it.
