Slightly unique Sunday night puzzle!

Post by Jblewi »

Evening all!

I'm in Turkey right now heading for Iran, I have picked up another cyclist who is on a racing bike with no braze ons, using revelate luggage. He would like to come into Iran but needs to carry a little extra weight, probably on his forks which are elliptical so won't take the monkii clips to have gorilla cages.

Does anyone have any homemade solutions that they have had success with? Experimentation time and materials are a little limited!

Many thanks for any tips!

Rucksack and carry the lighter items in it, not ideal but better than not going.

Seatpost pannier rack, something like the topeak one and add stuff below the saddle bag?

Juggle....

1.
basket.
An old style grocery basket on the front.
Transfer the lighter but bulkier items to the basket, heavier stuff in the revelate kit. (or just strap on a bag)
If theres a front revelate in the way of a basket, flip it round and run it on the top of the stem, should be fine.

2
If you can stop them sliding down the legs, use jubilee clips or P clips to secure anything cage type things to the forks. Use a strap up to the crown or stem to prevent slippage.
A riskier than some would like idea. consequences are high if something wangs round into the wheel.

3.
Dry bag under the down tube.
Again, secure from slipping into the cahin wheel with a long strap heading to the head tube.

Thanks very much for the replies. Some good ideas. Further complicated by carbon forks and seatpost. Think gorilla or anything cages are best on forks. And sling stuff under the down tube.

given a list of of what you can find, I bet we could all come up with something.
But. nothing like being in the moment to get creative.

8mm cable ties with bits of inner tube to protect forks. Work a treat and well strong
