Outta interest, Stu - what setting did you run it on?
I think it was program 6 which is 2 mode, high 4 hours, medium 12 hours.

Makes sense...12 hrs should be more than adequate with a little burst during tricky stuff. Saves flicking through the #3 settings. Ta for that.

/me resumes popcorn consumption and thread watching...

I don't really have any small lights other than a tiny headtorch. These are aimed at handling downhill runs with the sort of output that would light up a stadium.

Before today I've never actually tried running them at their lowest power. At about 5 hours in so far and still green (they go red, then flashing red when they run out). I have two batteries, and I'll be taking both, but I'm just making sure that with both batteries together they'll last the whole night (I don't fancy riding by head torch).

Yeah, that's the tiny headtorch I'm talking about. Fine for emergencies (or general cross country use), but I wouldn't want to descend with them.

Going to be a basically moonless night too... so bloody dark in the wilds of Wales!

I also use a Joystick. Single bar mounted Mark 6 in 2013 running in lowest mode. Lasted no problem. Helmet mounted Mark 6 and bar mounted Mark 9 in 2014 running in lowest setting. Upping them when required. Again both lasted no problem. Good job to as I had to use them again on Sunday evening as I took 32 hours to finish!

Biggest difference was having a helmet mounted light as well as bar mounted. Could actually see where I was going!

Ditto :|

However, I have been doing some off road running while on holiday, which surprisingly has added up to 22 miles over the past 11 days.
Which, all things considered, isn't too shabby for a non-runner like me...

I recall you looked more drained than your light did

Think you're right. I was sure I'd get my bag out and lie down as soon as I got back but oddly didn't end up going to bed until 2.00am the following morning ... 43 hours without sleep does things to your head

I'm still not entirely sure what I'm doing if / when I finish. I mean sure, 24 hours cycling, I reckon I can just about handle that if I go at a reasonable pace... but then what? I can't say I fancy driving three hours feeling that wrecked.

Depends. I suspect in a caterham in the wet on summer tyres that would be murderous, but in a merc S class or something it wouldn't be much of an issue

Last year I got a couple of hours kip in the van before driving back, then dosed up on caffeine to keep awake :-bd

See I sort of feel the other way... at least the Caterham would be keeping me awake. I'd almost certainly fall asleep in the comfort of the S class.

Thinking of having the missus come up and drive the car, but Llanbrynmair isn't exactly the easiest place to get to!

I think I've spent most time thinking about hot drink options. Can I justify a stove?

Doing the Peak 200 route with Tom W first week of September. He has 2000km of x and 40,000m of y more than me in his legs so far this year. I am anticipating pain.

BB200 prep has been significantly hampered with two fractured fingers

Did it on holiday last week on a run, but thinking it was just a bit of a sprain / ligament damage expected it to heal fairly quickly. X-ray today revealed two small fractures on the main knuckle of middle two fingers in my left hand.

Time to get the rollers out of the loft and fit some slicks to the Stoater...

rollers seem like they might lead to further injury as well as breakages to household items when riding in to them in an uncontrolled manner trying to break but failing with 2 broken fingers :P ...
