BB200 2015 ... yes, already.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I don't have to remind anyone who was there how hard this years BB200 was and I've already promised that next years route will include less 'features' and more time pedalling your bike. However, in an effort to stop things becoming too easy there is a plan to add an extra section to the route which will increase distance to 200 miles. The route with the extra bit will be the BB200+ ... consider it as two events running alongside each other.

All I'm trying to do at the moment is gauge how much interest / how many people might consider signing up for the + rather than the 'standard' version. If there's enough interest then'll it'll get added ... onviously it's not worth getting badges, etc made if only 2 people fancy it.

A tentative show of hands would be useful, ta.

I think I might be sticking with 200km but I really like the idea of something a bit longer being out there as an option.

If you'll let me, I'm up for the 200 miles :-bd
Will it be possible to set off on the 200miles but finish the 200km instead, so the routes overlap to a point where the 200miler splits off?

The + route would split off ... where it'll join back on again, I'm not sure.

I'd do the 200 miles but probably not in 24 hours ....

Short one for me. I think that even if I'd signed up for the longer one, a bale out option for the 200km route would be too easy to take...

It would be likely that 24 hours wouldn't figure, more likely to be a X number of hours cut off time.

320 km is a long ride in one bite - what about a BB 300?

I would always sign up for the longer event distance, so I'm in. 200 miles of riding sounds ace compared with 200km of fell running and bog snorkeling  If its all ridable I'd expect a 36hr cutoff to be adequate.

If longer, perhaps a 6am start option on Saturday would allow everyone to be back at work on Monday (a la a 40hr cutoff 600km audax)?

Big year on the bike planned for next year so would be at a 200m level of preparedness but I think I prefer to race the 200km and go for a black badge rather than die and DNF on the + event!

Great idea though!!

200 miler sounds good. Lots of long, uphill grinding perhaps?

Is Stu trying to pluck up courage to ask Dee to get up early to make tea for a 6am start?

I would aim for the 200 miles if it was mostly rideable and weather on the weekend was favourable. I would be struggling with any cut off time in good to fair conditions anyway. A 6pm finish is fine, much later gets a bit hard for people with a long drive home for work on Monday.

Can it be renamed the Swearbones 200 instead of the 200+ ;-)

Theoretically yes but first I'd like to know if the gold badges will be still be available as I have two black ones!

That would be a factor in my choice ;-)

I'd be interested. Would there be a similar cut off for the badges (obviously longer times)

I'd like more than 3 days notice to see the route, but in principle the BB200+ sounds ok to me :)

Having recorded the slowest time ever on the 200km route, I am well in for a short one after two years training.

While I'd always like to tick the stupidest/longest option there's always the getting into work on Monday factor.

Yes, I’d be interested in the 200+, would like an early start on the Saturday though, to get some good mileage before the shops shut for resupply.

A bailout option would be essential if you can keep that in mind Stu!

Yes, providing that it doesn't mean a stupid amount extra of hike a bike and at least a month beforehand for the route.
