Started having a look at this last night. Very nice.

Not sure if I can help, but if I can give a shout. Based in Pennines area, so can update bits if needing.

Quick question Dave (might be a bit silly as I haven't actually looked yet). But say I wanted to "pinch" a couple of the routes off it, and the POI files, can I just extract the .img and copy the appropriate files into the directory?
Nope but I will put them all up on a separate site when I am happy with them

I've done that Dave but it will not show up on "select maps" page its probably something im doing wrong

I have the 1:50k Garmin maps for Southern England, which picks up the Peak District and Wales. Don't have anything covering the Lakes so need to get some extra maps

Can I download the latest maps on this link still? http://cloud.danielgroves.net/Jr3mzkfNj/

Or should I get the ioffer maps as well?

One other question, how would the maps compare against my 1:50k Garmin map? (in look/feel/quality etc)

I have a bit more experience with these now on my etrex 30.

I prefer as a mapping standard, the OS maps. I have used these for a while now and it got me round the Cairngorm Loop and a few other smaller trips.

I used Dave's maps when I did the Ridgeway Double (against the clock, i.e. I didn't want to be faffing with mapping all the time) and they were brilliant it has to be said. The fact they're vector based meant the etrex worked considerably faster, and the detail was plenty adequate. ITT wise, I was very happy and they would be my go to map from now on Image

I should also mention, I have both OS maps and Dave's maps on my device at any one time, so depending on mood/requirements, I can swap.

How do you switch between them? (I'm on an Oregon 550t)

Have you used the ioffer maps?

Sorry, that was shocking wording on my part. What I really meant to say is - are the latest version of the maps on that link?

Yes ben, I am still playing with them but that link will give you a good idea as to what they will ultimately end up as.

No worries. It was fairly poor reading from me too :-)

I take it that the Garmin 800 can use these files as well? My wife has one and the maps have gone AWOL - genuine purchase OS maps at that.

Yes that's what I'm using. Download the file from that link. Stick on a little memory card (4gb) in the right folder bung it in the Garmin. Go for a ride :-bd

Don't know how the Oregon works, but on my etrex it's just some menu button along the lines of "Map Setup" or something. Don't really remember off the top of my head Image

Pretty much that on my 600. Three bars bottom right of the map pops up the menu. Select "Setup Map", "Configure Maps", switch on the one you want.

That would appear to have worked = one happy wife

Not sure why but it was an extremely slow download, something like 2 hours :o

That sounds like a great resource, thanks!

I've downloaded it and want to view it on a PC but can't figure out what to do. I've downloaded garmin basecamp but despite searches and trying a few things I can't figure out how to load it up to view it. I don't have a garmin GPS (well an old Etrex 10 that hasn't been used for years), just use Maverick Pro on my phone, so just wanted to use it to help plan stuff and plan a GPX trail to put on my phone.

Any help on how to view it on a PC would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have an installer for Basecamp. I'll upload it as soon as I get a chance, hopefully tomorrow.

You can copy the maps from the GPS by plugging it in and opening Bascamp which will then transfer the maps, but only works for Garmins
