Lightweight waterproof shoe covers.
Proper waterproof cycling shoes are big heavy clumpy things. Waterproof overshoes are thick and hard to stretch over.
All that's needed is a thin waterproof cover that fits over the top and front of the shoe to keep the spray off.
It doesn't need to be durable where it wraps round the sole if it's easy to slip an elastic strap off and let it sit round your ankle when walking.

An inlet in the top tube and a tap/outlet near the bottom of the frame so you can carry spare water (or beer).
Maybe a drilled out top tube so tent or tarp poles can be carried in the frame.
The internal space of any bike frame is such a waste of space.

Didn't Jay Petevary have a Moots with a tap in the down-tube where he could store his fuel?
Re: What else should I be working on?
It's not unusual for bike tourers to carry spare spokes in the seat tube, I'm sure a couple of tarp poles would slide in there on some framesMaybe a drilled out top tube so tent or tarp poles can be carried in the frame.
Vegan Graham, I think you've just designed the carrier bag! (may need some further devopment though )
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

2 pegs and 3m of cord supports a bike pretty well but interested to see a bearbones solution as Stus tarping skills trump mine :)composite wrote:Yeah like some poles or something...benp1 wrote:

You know those bags that people use to store soft stuff in? That you put your clothes/blankets/quilts in, then seal up then suck out with the hoover?
How about something like that for putting your soft bikepacking stuff in (sleeping bag/spare clothes) that you can pump out with a bike pump. (With the pump washer reversed). You could squeeze out the bulk of the air, then suck the rest out with your pump. It could save a lot of space in the bike luggage, I thought.

^ A bit like those eVent-bottom dry bags?
Re: What else should I be working on?
^ Pacific Outdoor made dry bags with a valve at the bottom so you could roll out the air to compress the contents. Really effective, but both of mine split after a very short usage period. Would be a great addition to the Airlock bags as they're much more durable. Maybe with a slightly heavier-duty fabric than the current ones as they'd need to be fully air-tight to work, my Airlocks seem to stay pretty waterproof even with a few tiny holes but there's no pressure sucking air/water in as there would be with a pressure valve / contents compressed.
