I'm sure there must be a few folk waiting ... you can now order your new snuggly (technical bikepacking term) Pipedream sleeping bag over at AlpKit ;)

I don't even want one and I'm excited :D

The 600 and 800 are still unbelievable value for money, but now the 400 is £150 my money would go on the PHD Minim 300 which is a regular in their biannual sale. It's about the same price, similar warmth but weighs 2/3rds that of the Pipedream as it has no zip and with 100g less (but higher quality) down it's going to pack smaller.

Pete - check first - I may be wrong but I thought the Pipedream bags were cut for those of slighter build!!!I was tempted to get something inbetween my 2 Rab bags but I'm probably going to get something else.

yes just had a look Steve and I think you are right I split open my cheapo Tesco down bag shivering on the MAch N back adventure  so don't want to fork out a wedge on something I won't be comfortable in and not even fit into for that matter

Hammock quilts maybe the answer if I can get them cheap enough :ugeek:

You can get a Rab Ascent 500 for less money than that Alpkit.

You can get a Rab Ascent 500 for less money than that Alpkit.
Which makes the Pipedream seem like even more of a good buy.

The RAB is 650 (US) fill power and is 80/20 down feather. Bag weight 1120g

The Pipedream is 750 (EU) fill power and 95/5 down feather. Bag weight 750g

I like RAB stuff but there's no contest here ;)

I'd take the Rab bag, as much as like Alpkit ;)

(and yes I have two Alpkit bags)

That looks nice, 150 notes for a sleeping bag virgin is a tad much! Any suggestions for a "testing the water " bag? I burn fairly hot but don't wanna freeze me nuts off :)

Gairym has just bought a Vango Venom 300 for about £60-70, might be worth asking him what he thinks of it. I think it's in the 'guidance on night temperature' thread.

i've only spent one night out in it so far and it was toasty warm! the conditions were:

- between 0 and 2 degrees the night i tested it.
- used inside an Alpkit Hunka XL Bivi bag.
- on top of a cheap foam mat.
- no tarp but no wind either (so no wind-chill factor).
- i sleep medium to warm.

all that taken into consideration i love it so far!

i'm 6'2" and so i'm a little longer than their suggested user height limit of 185cm but it's fine (if a little snug - but sleeping bags always are for me!).

all-in-all i would say it's well worth it for a light down bag on a budget!

any other questions just ask.

gairy.

FWIW , on s'bag /kit performance, slept out last night to -10 around 4am in about 4" snow;

Silnylon groundsheet
Exped 7UL mattress
Hunka bivvy bag
Pipedream 600

Brasher synthetic socks
Merino leggings
Merino base layer
Merino beanie
Buff
Uniclo down jacket (with hood)
Fleece gloves

Slept warm till about 4am when leak break interrupted. Thereafter 'cold' but not overly uncomfortable till around 6.

I'm probably a 'cold' sleeper
