1 week to go...

Post by barney »

ok so I'm having a crack at BB200 next week and this is by far the biggest thing I've ever done.

My usual cycling week is as follows...

4-5 days a week I commute to work (approx 8km each way)
midweek social evening ride (approx. 20-30km)
weekend ride of anything between 40-80km

what you guys suggest for next week; complete rest, occasional commute or a couple of easy TT sessions?

cheers in advance
Wait for me...

I won't be going out on the bike next week (and arnt this weekend).

A few spins to work and back won't do you any harm, but I'd have a week of taking it easy.

Save yourself for next weekend :-bd

After a couple of big days in the saddle last weekend and a heavy week of hard physical labour I'm pretty much a broken man and so am taking things VERY easy this week.

I was meant to be riding in a 130km (+3500m alt gain) sportive today but instead I'm doing nothing.

Am changing my tyres today now ready for next weekend (finally going fully tubeless) and so may do a little test ride afterwards but that's likely to be it for the week.

Also, I've got a 15 hour drive in store for Friday and so I want to be as rested as possible.

Really looking forward to it (the BB200 not the drive).

3.5 hours on the road bike today but high cadence and low torque easy miles, quick spin out catch up with Mark tomorrow pm and then no bike just stretches and gentle pool work. Can't influence anything out!

Eat well, hydrate, no booze, early nights, avoid sick people and feet up!!

I'm just testing my kit options and commuting. Might clean the bike up a bit!

Frozen toes on the first cold ride in ages this morning has reminded me it took 2 weeks to get full feeling back to my toes after the -3deg overnight temp and river crossings in 2012. :| Will be considering what I can do about that later today. Fingers crossed for some cloud keeping the temperature mild overnight, even if that means precipitation.

Same here, went for a night ride last night, shimano shoes (not winter boots) and merino socks, left big toe totally numb. I think I'll be placing tip of a plastic bag over the toes on each foot to keep the wind off. I'm still not tempted to wear my winter boots, firstly they fill with water, and second they have terrible grip on rocks.

As for riding, I've recabled my gears, changed the chain, and chainring, and need a couple of test rides to check all is good, but they wont be long rides. I'll probably stop riding after tuesday, do some recovery exercises and yoga to stretch my really dodgy hip back to normal (always tightens up after lots of riding).

I will still commute every day next week but I would have not done my normal mid week ride. Personally I find that I can rest to much, I prefer to keep my egs moving coming up to a long ride.

I replaced most of my drive train last week and put new cables in and hoped to get a couple of rides in before the BB200 to check they are fine. Unfortunately I have been sick since Wednesday night so not ridden. Might mean I have to get some sort of evening ride in this week as a shake down. Won't be long or tough though, just a couple of easy hours on the flat I reckon.

Got a new wheel and revo light coming tomorrow so not sure if I will be able to test prior to the bb200. Will commute most days and an easy ride with a couple of mates on Tuesday, I find being mentally prepared most important of all, so will fart about with the bike on weds/Thurs and get the bike packed Friday.

No, but given that this is the forth year of the event, and it being mid October in Wales, I'm surprised we haven't actually had a full on deluge yet.

At least starting in the dry takes the edge off it.

I'm most concerned about the nighttime rain though. Being wet after the sun goes down can be double big time cold.

My daughters second birthday today, so I did some good training on the bouncy castle.

I will continue with the training this week as it has been going for the rest of this year. Thinking about it and saying 'oh sub standard ' repeatedly.

Got to sort new cleats in shoes, fit rack and pack everything. Will aim for a local ride on Tues night with my frame bag fitted to remind me how the bike feels with a bit of load on it.
