Bogies on my kit after using Nikwax!

Post by johnnystorm »

After the mega-deluge earlier in the week I decided I should reproof my Altura kit.

So....
1. Washing machine cleaner and descaler and rinse
2. Nikwax tech wash, only 2 garments, washed as per tags
3. Nikwax TX wash in, 100ml per garment

Removed my jacket and trousers this morning to hang them out and found them covered in pink "bogies" like sticky glue balls, or err, bogies. (the jacket is Red)

Anyone had this before? Hoping I haven't knackered them both....

I've never had much luck reproofing anything but I've never had bogies over everything either.

Would this help? ;)

Remington Snot-away maybe.

Was hoping to bung my soft shells in this morning before heading out to work but couldn't risk snot all over them. Will test the jacket and trousers tonight to see if they are beading. If they are I'll just live with it. If they are toast. I'll cry. :(

I've had that before. It was a normal wash after my waterproof but couldn't work out what the 'bogies' were/came from! That answers a mystery from a few months back. Can't help you with an answer though

At least you haven't said everything was wrecked, right?

Fans of this Soap opera  will be thrilled to learn my softshell and sealskins came out snot-free. The jacket and trousers have gone back for a second run....

Nothing wrecked Johnny, although my buff did need a second wash to clear the bogies. I never measure how much liquid I put in the wash, so that may have something to do with it (I.e too much cleaner?)

Maybe it's using a machine that does it? Never had anything but impressive results with a hand-wash using tech wash and reproofing spray from nikwax, on goretex mainly, also used for cleaning my buffalo jacket. I've ruined stuff before in the machine so that scared me off putting a paclite jacket anywhere near it )

I use the Tech Wash and TX direct in the machine with no issues. Does a good job i reckon too. ;)
Used it on Gore-tex, Event, pertex, nikwax windproof and never had snot.

Second time around and no fresh snot and most of the old goo gone. Fingers crossed.
