Gadgets from widgets

Post by Charliecres »

I made a couple of stoves yesterday from Guinness cans. These days the widget in the can is a hollow white plastic ball about 15mm in diameter which looks ideal for multiple bivvying uses:

1) Use it a bit like a tarp clip to create additional guying points on your tarp (Ball inside tarp, wrap material around ball and loop of cord round both)
2) Drill a small hole in the ball and you've got a pole topper to save your tarp if you want to use the pole to hold it up in the middle
3) Use the drilled ball as a diffuser over the lens of a torch, to provide ambient lighting in your tarp/tent.

I'm sure they must have other uses too ...

I have a couple of these in my shed and like the idea of the pole topper and torch diffuser.

Cheers for the idea.

Anyone found a use for the foul tasting black liquid in the cans? Does it repel midges?

I remember many years ago standing in a newsagents in Newcastle perusing a copy of the very first issue of Viz. It was hand printed on A4 paper and stapled together in the corner. I had a good titter but thought this will never catch on, wish I'd bought it, imagine how much that would be worth now.
