i had one of those, or it may have been the elite o. it was very very harsh to ride. it came with nukeproof carbon hubs, the rear spit in 2 on the 3rd ride. possibly too lightweight a bike for me even all those years ago.

Funny really, we lusted after that look back then but it made for a horrible handling bike. And as Ton says, they were brutal over rough ground. Mine was a 'dale which did not have 1mm of flex anywhere in its frame.....

If the geometry is right then longer stems aren't a problem. Modern stuff with short as possible stems and long top tubes makes bike fitting difficult at best. Then there's integrated headsets which are fitted to ever shorted head tubes, bring back the stack height of old. Go into a bike shop today and find a bike that isn't supplied with the fork steerer cut a short as possible, all reasons why I like my Jones the best.
