Bike choice appreciation society
So.....does anyone else frequently just sit and look at their bike/bikes and think 'I really nailed it with my choices'?
It's very rare that I get bike envy as usually there's something I don't like about, different choices I would've made or components I'd not get on with when I look at other folks builds.
I'm currently sat on the train on my way home from a little ride yesterday and just enjoying my fantastic taste whilst looking at my Escapade fully loaded with bags and covered in dust.

Here it is/was:
Certainly nothing bling or high-end about the build. A thrown together mess of a drivetrain, cheap second hand wheels, cable discs with my favourite contact point kit and a smattering of various old knackered bags attached.
I love this bike!

In a similar l, but opposing, vein, I bought a Cube Nutrail that was on offer very cheap at Wiggle. It was only for the parts as I'd decided I was going to get a custom Ti Fatbike frame. However, the Ti frame hasn't happened as the original just rides so well. It's a disappointing matt grey and looks dull, but I just don't care
Re: Bike choice appreciation society
Oh, I don't know. Those ovalised wheels are certainly bling and futuristic. Do they offer similar advantages to the ovalised chainrings?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Ha, that's weird isn't it! Must have had the phone camera on 'wide' view and it's distorted the image

I'll join - I don't think I've ever bought or got a bike that I've then thought "hmm this is rubbish" My only problem is that I sometimes struggle to decide which one I want to ride on a particular day as they are all ace!
PS I knew Tony would be along to show off his fancy Fargo

It's not too fancy, but a totally ground-up build so everything was a choice, and it ended up working really well as a whole. Wallet-conscious randonneur.

It will be sold before the year is out
Weird one this I like my bikes but to me they are a functional thing*, thwy either work for what I bought them for or they dont. I don't really think of any of them as beautiful or perfect .
* Had an orange 5 own a lauf point proven I think.
I also have 2 26ers so don't serially upgrade ( one of those won't last much longer though )

Re: Bike choice appreciation society
Totally. Beauty or perfection are nowt to do with it.
Right for me is what I aim for.
I look at a bike and think what I'd change in order to make it exactly right for me and before I know it I've usually pretty much changed what I'm looking at into something I already own.

Re: Bike choice appreciation society
I loved my Salsa El Mariachi, cheap and used for for 7 or so years and it was brilliant, could singlespeed it, tour on it, add gears etc etc but then I got a Trek Procaliber and I’m reluctant to say it, but it’s a better bike (except it can’t be singlespeeded neatly).
Anyways, I’m going off point. Got a gravel bike last summer and it’s perfect for me, fast enough on the road but has the ability to do bridleways/canals/paths Certainly makes riding around the flat plains of Cheshire more fun

Ok then in that case they are nearly perfection , but i know, at somepoint, i will buy something for them to upgrade somethingTotally. Beauty or perfection are nowt to do with it.
