What became of the Decathlon Adventure bike?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Did they appear in shops? Anyone seen one in the flesh or ridden one?

There was a lot of noise followed by deafening silence.

I've looked for it multiple times, but not seen one in the flesh. Maybe a victim of the parts shortage...

I think they got caught up in the fire and Covid related world-wide parts shortages. I'm sure a few turned up and quickly sold out.

I think they've all sold out pretty rapidly as they came into stock.

I definitely saw at least a second run that had a different paint job.

Two Sundays ago there was at least one large one on display in Wednesbury. I had a look at it on the way back down from dropping off my daughter at Uni.

I got one of the first run. Very happy with it. Not sure what else to add, but it's a keeper!

Right I have a bit more time now so here's a more detailed overview:

The positives:

- Nice colour
- Lots of points to mount stuff
- Cheaper than a Fargo/Cutthroat/Insearchof
- Good warranty and aftercare from Decathlon
- Rides nicely
- Good spec
- I can use my MTB wheels/tyres on it
- The SRAM brakes and drivetrain are really nice

The negatives:

- I don't like the seat (anyone want to by a Brooks C15 carved - barely used?)
- I'm still fecked with long covid so the chance of me going anywhere that I need a dynamo hub are pretty slim so I've never used it (also for sale along with the handy USB stem cap thingy).
- There's too many mounting points! The bolts themselves weigh about 500g!. I've spent too much money on little rubber bungs that keep falling out.
- The reviews were correct - the handlebar lowers are too short (Anyone got a set of Cowchippers they want to sell me?)
- The thru axles skewers were garbage but Decathlon offered to refund me the cost of a better set (that I sourced from Wiggle).

What I've changed:

- Seat (to my usual Fabric Scoop)
- Stem (to a Redshift suspension one).
- Front wheel (to a non-dynamo).
- I played with some Hutchinson Toureg tyres last summer but found I preferred the Thunder Burts for the extra width and grip. They roll pretty good too.
- Swapped seatpost for a cheapo under seat lever dropper from Decathlon to give me some confidence when I get rowdy. This gets changed back for bikepacking duties.
- Pedals are DMR somethings

I sold two bikes (Ramin 3+ and Planet X XLS) to buy this and it works well as a replacement for both. A bit of a fire road sprinter but also a steady tent carrier. It has also proved to be a very nice all day cross-country machine with the Redshift stem taking the sting out of the rockier trails.

So all in all it's a :-bd from me.

Seems they renamed it the Riverside touring bike, which has been sold out forever. The new paint job is not as nice as the original IMO.
