Hi, just popping into say grrr.... not the bloody year of victory for me, yet! One thing after another; physical and mental health and life. Very much boom and bust with exercise with too much done, which leads to a bust on the mood and food front.

However, when I'm back from holiday visiting the folks next Friday I intend to give myself a thorough slap, get on the scales, and get back on the wagon.

Sorry, I'm not wading back through all the posts since I last visited, but well done to you all sticking with it regardless of how it's going.

Whoa! This is scarily accurate to my situation too!

Every single aspect.

Keep on keeping on and we'll both get there eventually.....

I've been trying to work on the mental side of the situation more and more of late.

Acknowledging that my poor food choices and love of booze are coping mechanisms for dealing with other issues and stresses in my life was the first step.

It follows that simply attempting to not use those coping mechanisms (as everyone who doesn't have these relationships with food/drink suggests) might work for a short while (as it often does) but ultimately I'm just removing a tool I've become reliant on to cope, which has it's own repercussions.

The removal of a necessary coping mechanism without sorting the underlying causes/triggers is almost certain to lead to things coming to a head and therefore a massive failure and relapse at some point (usually when an external factor above/beyond the norm occurs).

I then feel double sh1t as whatever is going on in my life that caused the need to fall back on the coping mechanisms is still there but also I beat myself up about failing in my quest to eat better etc...

All very fascinating and I've certainly not solved anything yet but I do feel as though I'm on the right track.....

And.....

I'm also guilty of trying to over-exercise to compensate and offset my excesses in other areas.

Sure, it worked when I was younger (or rather it not working was less apparent and the affects weren't yet painfully obvious) but now that I'm older (46) all I'm doing is burning the candle at both ends and making myself exhausted beyond my ability to recover and increasingly likely to injure myself etc...

Fun times!!!

Yeh, I've sought professional help in the past , particularly after the Freddy Flintoff documentary really hit home as I essentially' purge' with exercise, but my body can't handle that anymore . Worth a watch. It did help, but 50 years of ingrained habits/coping strategies/and to be honest trauma is ard to change. Feel free if you want to PM

So two weeks of eating, drinking and doing no exercise, other than walking, has taken its toll.

All weights are 7 day rolling average...

07/01/22: 70.9kg
-------------
20/05/22: 66.7 (+1.2kg)
27/05/22: 64.4 (-2.3kg)
03/06/22: 64.1 (-0.3kg)
-------------
Target: 62kg by 10/06/21. 14% bodyfat or lower.
-------------

Have been oddly swollen all week. I think possibly because I've been doing a lot of building work outdoors (and my body hates the sun!).

Good example of why sometimes the scales must be ignored.

Last Saturday I was 65.3kg. Today I'm 61.4kg. I have most definitely not starved myself to the extent that would produce nearly 4kg of weight loss (was all water weight / swelling).

Well done Richard. Going to declare victory for myself. I have been 73-75kg for years and hoped to get back 70kg but had given up on that target and settled on 72kg and that was not happening. 7 months ago I moved in with my long term partner and my diet has changed. More veg and less eating between meals. I have steadily lost weight and this morning stepped on the scales and they settled at 69.9kg. Where's the cake?

Nice one. I must admit that I find the maint stage a little harder.

I find if I've got to be good, then I can be good. It's when I can be a little bad that things start going off the rails.
