I do most years, but with a young family I've only managed to whole 500km about 2 out of the last 5?6? years.

Road bike though, haven't got the time to do the distance off-road.

Does Zwift count?

The weather has always put me off previously (along with family commitments).

You've just reminded me - I noticed today that Restrap have a 'Solstice Century' Challenge and it mentions that you can do that indoors. It's a personal opinion but I do wonder whether that's kind of missing the point?

Yes, gets it done

I believe indoor is allowed but as Stu said probably defeats the object a bit, that said 500km on a trainer, I'd rather be out in bad weather😅

Not this year. I've done it in the past and honestly... was a miserable experience due to the ground / weather.

Maybe more fun on road?

Never used to Colin but since they stopped sending out the roundels/woven thingies, they've also added Zwift and other indoor riding into the challenge.

Yes Tony, I can't remember if I managed it last year but will attempt again this year hopefully. I'm currently on a 10 mile per day challenge (for 31 days) as I wasn't getting out much. Hopefully will just push the mileage up on that. Good reminder btw and mine will be on road too. Some of it commuting...

Was planning on doing it, as I've managed it the last two years. Currently down with COVID though, so all bets are currently off...

I'm giving it a go. Managed it once before on the road and that was fairly grim. This time I'm working over Christmas and we've got a wattbike at the station so it's a bit of a no brainer.

More like the Festive 4000 for me, a round trip from here to Sheffield to spend 4 days with the kids. 4000km road trip which was organised in November as a fairly straightforward way of getting us and presents back and forth has turned into needing 5 Covid tests, booster vaccination, quarantine until day 2 test results are back. The frustrating thing is that doing the proper Festive 500 around here would be a doddle, it was 18° and sunny yesterday. Just for info, Spain has recorded 14 cases of the Omicron variant thus far.

I can see that signing up for me might motivate me but it seems more likely I'm setting myself up to fail and create another opportunity to feel crap about myself.

I was just about to mention that, thanks Stu! Did it, got the badge and everything. It was a remarkably smooth ride. Uncannily like being sat in an armchair at home in fact.

As I've said before, what is it with these round numbers?

I think that it’s slightly alliterative in this case plus it’s achievable but not easily so.

How about a geometric version…

1km on day one
2km on day two
4km on day three
8km on day four
Etc.

Might struggle around days seven or eight 😰

I had never had a chance to do it before due to being in a long distance relationship. Last year Christmas was cancelled on the 19th and I decided to just do it as I was on my own and managed it with a day to spare. Weather was generally good, popped out for a few miles after some rain one day. I got one of the digi files and herself cross stitched me a version onto a card.
We have just moved in together and fitness is way down so won't happen this year.

Completed the last 3 so will more than likely go for another one, bit rubbish you don't get a little woven badge any more, but still its something to get up for eh.
Matt Page (he's here somewhere) did it in one go last year if my memory serves me right
