Using the search function

Post by Rob S »

Is there a way of searching for a group of words? For instance, when I search for 'Winter sleeping bag'. The words are too common to list the results. I get the impression that the search is looking for all three individual words, whereas if the search was the combination of the three words it may be more successful. I have tried putting the + in front of words and only looking at certain forums but with the same results. Thanks in advance.

advanced search still won't find your 'winter sleeping bag' both. WINTER SLEEPING BAG and +WINTER + SLEEPING +BAG return a blank result of Too common.
you'll consider a more exotic place to kip! :grin try Four Poster Bed!

Thanks both. I thought that there must be a way of searching for an entire phrase rather than individual words, but obviously not. I tried all the various options but kept getting the "too common" message, so I wondered if there was a 'trick' you can use.

You could use Google and restrict to this website.

https://www.google.com/search?q=%22wint ... king.co.uk

Basically search:
"Winter sleeping bag" site:bearbonesbikeacking.co.uk

Google your query, in this format all one line with a space infront of site.

needed_word + also_needed_word - notneeded_word site:bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk

Replace the words in italics with your key words.
with a plus '+' between words needed, and if you want to exclude words put a minus '-' in front of that word.

End the query with the phrase [space] 'site: web_site_address' Eg 'site:bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk'

Eg 'winter+sleeping+bags [space] site:bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk
(all one line)
or
winter+sleeping+bags - summer [space]
site:bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk

free+gear site:bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk

That's the limit of my Google- foo

I don't think the Google Site: option works on the forum though - only the rest of the site (news, reviews etc)

That'd be to easy!

I didn't have one to be honest, other than wondering what 'bag was popular in the colder months.
