Lael Tour Divide FKT

Post by Richpips »

Worth a watch I reckon. Lael is aiming to beat Mikes record.

Starts shortly....

Thanks for this. She is an utterly amazing meta-human.

It says she's almost 2 hours in and at the 135 mile mark, that's fairly rapid...

Opened two days ago, according to bikepacking.com.

Indeed. The last time I had a similar average speed I was racing at the Glacier Bike DH in Sass Fee (many years ago), a 9 km DH race on snow from 3600 to 1800 m and ski slopes, beginning of March.

Hope all goes well for her. Is she riding the very same route as Mike Hall did?

an interesting choice of bike.

the next version of "gravel" bike perhaps?

then the version after that will have "flat bars for enhanced control and a more upright position"

I think she used the same bike in 2019 - spesh mtb with drop bars, 45mm rear tyre, 60mm front.
Denim shorts when cold and wet??

The tracker on Bikepacking.com shows hers and Mikes (virtual) tracker on the same route currently Gian... I suppose time will tell. Seems to be a good few hours behind the last time I looked

I'm rooting for her, if anyone can get Mike's record it's probably her. On the Denim shorts (Jorts!): I think they were just photos of her setting up the bike the day before rather than her riding shorts...but she can pretty much ride in anything, and i think she commonly goes chamois free and t-shirts.

Has she sacked it? 7 hours rest sounds quite a long time for an ultra FKT attempt

Looks more like the tracker hasn't updated.

Or maybe she just underestimated just what (our) Mike did on that day. She has won the womens cat in a 1000 mile race in June and then seems to have done an ultra (not sure if it was touring pace) last month across somewhere...

*phenomenal either way and the tracker states 5mph moving at mile 110... Does that means it's updated itself Bob?

Lael must surely have a problem, she's not moved in over 11 hours.

If you want to average
PaulB2 wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:51 pm 2 hours in and at the 135 mile mark
, you need a good and long rest.

Ahh... 11 hrs. Must be the jeans.
Seriously, hope she's okay.

Maybe just a tracker switched of deliberately to make it more interesting for us.

It sounds like someone forgot to put fresh batteries their Spot

Does an ITT still count if you're off radar for a good chunk of the day?

Aye, as long as you can provide a GPX track. Most spots tender to wander miles of track on occasion. It's maybe fallen off her bike...

A flat bar conversion for a drop bar bike. 🤦‍♀️

It was only a matter of time. 🤷‍♀️

Cheaper than a new bike I suppose.
Imagine similar to a 1990’s mountain bike; when we had flat bars and a stupid long stem.

Lael just got service and said she received a ton of messages regarding her SPOT tracker. She doesn’t check Trackleaders and wasn’t aware of her frozen dot.

She’s looking for resupply to replace her batteries. She’s recording her entire ride with both a Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt and the Rival watch.

Stopped again at the post office in Whitefish. Let's hope she has posted herself some new batteries for the tracker.
