Bothies and HT550

Post by journeyman »

I ve just seen an ITT being attempted by DG on the ht550. Hope its not as hot up there... but fair play hes nearly at the OBH watering hole. Then somehow diving down in that rabbithole I found this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... s-57886203 about bothies remaining closed. Back in may they seemed pretty much in use. On the group start there was no option - apart from a dq but to keep steaming past...

I've heard some folk are still using them despite them being closed, you'd think they'd just lock them up until the cooler months when they might be needed again for an emergency

All MBA bothies have remained closed for the last 18 months but that hasn't stopped some folk from using them. Obviously estate owned / maintained bothies are a different matter.

Lots of bothies being used despite requests not to. Pointless locking them as the types using them would in all probability break in.

Last month I walked past 4 bothies, all occupied. Sheneval was rammed.

I noticed he diverted to Inverness and back, wonder what that was all about?

One of the track points is right outside Alpine Bikes so I guess it was something mechanical-related. There would have been 3 bike shops much closer to the route at that point (Strathpeffer, Dingwall and Muir of Ord) but all closed on a Sunday :(

Interesting thread - ITT, DG, HT550, OBH, dq, MBA... you need to be in the know....
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.
