Anti doping isn't a thing you'd even think about, but I guess yeh he's got his passport to keep up to date for that. Presumably no different from his other ventures though like GBduro and the like?

He's nearly finished stage 7 now anyway :-bd

Wow, so being fully self supported could risk breaching anti-doping...
VeloViewer did more than just come up with the initial route in conjunction with Lachlan, they also create the exact routes each day as they shift on a daily basis. Which he in turn rides on his Garmin Edge1030 Plus. For example – if he planned to ride 215KM, but decided to go extra to 255KM, that shifts more than just his progress. It shifts tomorrow’s route files, but it also shifts camping site plans for not only that night but probably the next night. That impacts the Crikey, how much filming crew with him (where they park their vans), and even more interestingly – impacts the planned address he must provide each night to WADA, for anti-doping measures.

Ben Lowe at VeloViewer explained that today, June 29th, “Lachlan is thinking of doing an extra 70km today (to another known campsite), although he will make the choice when he reaches the originally planned stop. If he does that then Kim English [EF/Crikey, how much’s Gone Racing producer] will adjust that riding time for today and will then need to spend a few hours re-planning the campsites for the next few days.”
I feel this is made so much better with the certain clothing brand filter

Never thought about his anti doping controls, interesting insight.

As a side note, love seeing Cav win some stages :-bd

Yesterday, was a hard day for Lachlan mentally and physically. His sandals took their last pedal stroke in the morning before breaking completely which made for some tough climbing in flip flops.
I love it. I must try some cat one climbs in flip flops.

This has given me an idea. As I didn't get a place on BB200, I'm going to take the route, divide into 4 or 5 stages, and ride them fully supported, with soigneurs, spare everything and snogs on the podium each day.

In real news, today's race was the 'sum of awe'. Like watching the TDF in the old days. Every man for himself.

Lachlan now on his first loop of Ventoux. I wonder if he'll try to do both today or get some rest and hit the second loop tomorrow.

lol, madness...
Lachlan also experienced several punctures along the way, ran out of inner tubes and had to resort to tying knots in them to keep the tubes air tight.

But Lachlan’s luck began to turn as the afternoon progressed. He was able to find a bicycle shop that sold the right size inner tubes - a feat in itself, not to mention it was 5pm on a Sunday in a remote area of France.

Looks like he stopped overnight between ascents. Well into stage 12 now and building a decent gap between himself and the peloton. I guess the rest days are where he has to make the most of given some of the transfers.

Prefer to think it's young, really well prepared and coached athletes at the top of their game, breaking away from those having a bad week, or not as well prepared. Yesterday was great too. Glad Cav survived.
Young lad from the Lakes going well too - Mark Donovan - ahead of all the British Grand Tour winners.

At least he's got a nice flat stage now. I'm sure that'll be quite welcome after two ascents of Ventoux!

I've not seen his feet, any pics?

I quite like that hooped bivi of his. Can't be light that.

Edit - In his latest pic on the site it looks like he's still wearing sandals. I thought they'd said he was back in cleats.

Different sandals, to try and dry out his trench foot  . Pictures I've seen are on Instagram, on his own stories

As the resident ethics pedant here, I have to point out that his ride isn't self-supported.

1, Veloviewer and his team adjust the route for the next day and his options for campsites based on the days progress

2, He has a film crew following him

His ride is still an amazing thing to do and for a great cause, but the R@pha media saying it's self-supported detracts from the actual spirit of self-supported riding/racing and confuses people new to the sport who think these things are allowed in self-supported racing.

For an actual self-supprted ride of the Tour route see Rich and Tom's ride from a few years back.

arguably any sponsored rider did not do it self supported as somewhere someone helped and paid for their things

That said yes this is him riding a route on his own with support for the route choice

It's a shame he's getting assistance finding campsites, but I can understand it for the PR / drug testing side of things.

Everything else looks pretty much exactly like what I'd understand a self supported ride to look like. I mean, the guy was tying knots in his tubes and riding in broken flipflops because he couldn't get replacements. Would have been easy enough to have the camera peeps grab some stuff for him.

Whist I agree he's doing it in good style and the camera crew doesn't appear to be helping their presence changes the dynamic and would be against the rules in an event.

Obviously Lachan is riding it for the right reasons, but he is getting paid to do it and his employers have worked out that the extra sales/marketing opportunities/kudos outweigh the costs of making the films etc.

Having to tie knots in tubes is just bad preparation, I mean who would end up on a ride without a serviceable spare inner-tube

Two tubes no less, and a full pack of patches.

I now carry two full packs of patches, and some extra glue!
