I've got an inflatable tyvek pouch that I paid about three quid for (including straw). Excellent if you like the sensation of sleeping on a turgid crisp packet that rotates around during the night and ends up stuck to the opposite cheek 👍

I always thought this. Then I bought pillow. Now I don't have to worry about whether I'm "hardcore" or not because I'm too busy sleeping rather than trying to arrange and keep a random selection of un-pillow-like objects under my head
 i actually slept for 5 hours solid with the shoes under the mat. Perfect pillow..

I’ve now bought an Exped UL pillow. This is my first proper camping pillow. Up until now, I too have been a stuff bag full of spare clothing type of guy. But I know one day that I would come unstuck if I carried on like this.

What are these?
Essentially leggings.
Something clean and dry to wear for bed.

I have been using one of these for the last year or so and it is equally as good as better known makes that failed too soon and its cheaper.

I’m going to plug my own handiwork again - works great. Stuff in a down jacket or an exped ul pillow depending on what I’ve got with me.

I'm on my second one of tehm. I lost the first.

They are very good and I'm quite fussy about my pillows.

Every time I pump up my mat and pillow (both Exped in case you're interested) I can't help but think of this passage from A Short Walk In the Hindu Kush, where Eric Newby and his friend meet Wilfred Thesiger, the celebrated British explorer and soldier. Interesting character, very much of his time, mind.

Had one of those dri-down ones turn up today. No idea why but I expected a small air bladder in it to adjust firmness (there isn't one, just the down).

Might have to try my exped pillow in it, see if that works.
