Derailleur hanger straightener tool please - Ribchester / Preston area

Post by javatime »

Asking for a friend....who had a major rear mech into backwheel incident when we were in mid Wales last weekend. Got it reasonably straight by eye using a pair of borrowed stilsons and my rear wheel threaded in as a guide.

Wondered if anyone in the area has the Park tool to borrow, or can recommend a proper local bike shop in the area.

Think the Park tool is beefy, and can be used to both check and straighten, but ready to be corrected. Also thinking of a simple jig that could be used to check.

It's an old steel frame, and the hanger is part of the lug.

Improvised Jig

Screw a big bolt [ M10x1 iirc - might need a proper bolt shop to get this as not th usual thread pitch ] into the mech hanger having first attached big bolt to an angle iron /piece of sturdy metal. Again should be easy to see how out of true and give some leverage

That said the wheel technique you have used is easier so you might have done as much as you can
