Before I heard about punk and ska, I listened to both types of music available in Brisbane: country and western.
And Kenny was the man.
I've been schooling my teenage kids on him this evening, and they love it. The Gambler. Coward of the County. His lovely duets with Dolly.
We've spent a few hours over dinner listening to the gentle poetry he produced.
Just saying.

We had a Bedouin driver when I worked in Jordan who was a massive Kenny Rogers fan. I was definitely very odd being driven across the desert accompanied by The Gambler, Coward of the County etc, by a bloke in traditional dress and a pair of Oakleys.

My dad is a big country music fan and as a youngster he used to drag me along to concerts because my mum wouldn't go. The best we ever went to was Johnny Cash and the Carter Sisters, I think I would have refused a Kenny Rogers gig.
