Hedgehogs

Post by ton »

just found a very small hedgehog in my front garden. i thought it was dead. it was covered in ticks. it's little body moved so it was alive.
got a shoe box and put some tea towels in and placed it in the box.
went on the internet, and amazingly there is a hedgehog rescue 2 miles from my house. so off we went.
a nice couple we pretty ace to be honest. they sprayed it with a insect treatment and placed it on a clean white pad. withing 2 minutes 5 fleas had dropped off, and the lady expertly removed 7 swollen ticks.
she then gave the hog a antibiotic injection and a fluid injection. within 5 minutes the little thing had opened it's eyes and started moving a fair bit more.
we filled a form in and made a donation, and fingers crossed in a couple of days we can go and collect the hog and release it back in our garden.

there are some ace people about. and and the hedgehog shed at lofthouse are 2 such people. :-bd :-bd

Hedgehogs are lovely animals, there seemed to be lots in the Yorkshire Dales when I did the Divide last year. Less common in the Midlands than they used to be. And you’re right Ton, some great people out there. It should be law though that any hedgehog rescue place is called Miss Tiggywinkles

Well done ton my neighbour had one in a similar state to yours. We took it to a rescue centre but sadly they could not save it

Timely post.
Last night our wildlife camera filmed a family of ‘hogs eating the slugs that are eating my turnips.

:-bd . They need all the help they can get these days.

My good pal Uncle Tony near Newtown is a hedgehog foster parent! He's had loads of hog-children, although apparently you shouldn't have more than three at once or they get a bit prickly with each other.

I've not seen a hedgehog down here for years, and considering I see water voles semi regularly and even the occasional dormouse, both very rare nationality, then the hedgehog must be struggling.

Well done Tony, I've spent the weekend doing DIY  but your efforts lifted my spirits
