I have a pile of maps to do this too. I was warned off wallpaper paste as it causes the map to expand when it soaks in and makes it difficult to line up adjacent maps.

I was informed that white PVA glue would work best. And then a thinned layer as a seal.

I've not tried it though.

Not sure about the sealing in, possibly some clear silk emulsion but in kitchen and bathroom formula...

Get yourself some craft knives from the local crafts shop Tony. The ones with a curved edge so it won't dig in. Use a sharp edge (a metal edge ruler would work) to then find the overlaps and carefully cut through both. Should create something that hopefully looks seamless if you do so carefully. Bit tedious but can be done...

NB. Dont be shy with the paste and get some good stuff (sorry)... Veey clever that and I've always considered it but the missus won't let me...

First thing I'd do the size the back of the maps with diluted pva, let them dry and then use pva to stick 'em up with.

If your kitchen gets as full of steam as mine just has there is a possibility that Pva may well reactivate leading to some
Interesting navigational challenges . You can get waterproof Pva but it's difficult to water down !

Is it the juvenile in me that would be looking for maps with rude place names for this (Shitlington, Penistone, etc etc or maybe the place you might consider “the arsehole of The UK”).

I’ve stuck a few Landranger maps to walls at home with wallpaper paste. It’s tricky, you get one shot because the paper is very absorbent and once wet is prone to stretching. They bobbled up and attempts to flatten the bobbles leads to mess, but the bobbling flattens out again on drying. I wouldn’t want to attempt lining two maps up using wallpaper paste. I’d go Stu’s suggestion of PVA and put a coat on back of map first, but apply it quick and don’t muck about.
