Another busy summer of BBQ, campfires and litter?

I managed a psychiatric ward in Swindon, stay where you are!
I've probably frequented it.

Sit rep from Wales after first weekend of "stay local" lifted:

Tesco extra - huge queues outside, not seen them for a very long time (gave up on the idea of popping in for a quick pee and a sandwich)

McDonalds drive through - absolute bedlam.

Brecon Beacos - quiet.

So I'm thinking people are more interested in seeing their relatives and non essential shopping than in the great outdoors, at least while it is a bit wet and windy.

So as long as we get reasonably normal weather, we'll be ok :-bd

Lockdowned for months and the first thing the Normals can think of is going to T@sco and McD's. Rather depressing really.

The drive through McDonald's, in our local supermarket carpark, has been "essential" for months.

As RIP said - depressing

Gower... the tracks and paths were fairly quiet, the beaches were quite busy with walkers on Saturday, quieter today. The roads were much busier and more hassley. Quite why the driving is so bad here when the place is so small that you can only gain a few minutes by driving like a maniac is anyone’s guess. Luckily we have some good off-road routes to enjoy but if you need to use the roads it’s not a lot of fun.

I see that the fire service were out on the moors in the Peak District yesterday following a family having a 'nice disposable BBQ' in the countryside. Here we go 2, 3, 4.

There was a big fire between Ennerdale and Buttermere a few weeks ago. Rode through there last evening and with the marshy grasses and gorse burned to the floor, exposing extra sheep trods and paths, which led me on a detour. At one point I came across the remains of some burned equipment, rucksack possibly, and some half burned logs. Being miles from the nearest wood, I wonder if this was the cause of the fire.......

Of course its now muir / heather burning season for the estates. Doubtless many will 'get out of control' (i.e the estate will leave them to burn a much bigger area than they are permitted to) and it will be blamed on all those nasty hill walkers / bike packers / plebs.....
