Cordillera (Tour Divide) books

Post by slarge »

Hi all
where can I get a few volumes of the Cordillera series - I am thinking very hard about the Tour Divide next year and could do with some reading material.

I can't find anything in this country, and would like real books (not Kindle downloads).

thanks

Think I have the earlier ones if you want to borrow them?

Thanks Chew & Dave - might buy a few from the Lulu shop in the US

So - to minimise shipping costs etc, is it worth clubbing together to get a box full sent over? Would anyone else be interested (although I guess the more in the box, the more likely it would get hit by customs charges)?

I recall that I found the first few to be the most interesting. Later (with some exceptions), it all seemed to get somewhat 'samey'.

Do Lulu not print on demand outside of the US?

Yes, pretty sure if you setup an account with UK address they print locally. I sold many copies of OCCD that way

I've ordered volume 11 - let's see what happens (I assumed Lulu print in the US and ship overseas - wasn't aware they printed locally).

thanks all

I did the same as prep and there's one volume that I didn't realise was themed as "suffering and failure" or some such. Read that one in isolation and you'll regret it!

Divide by Two wheels by Mike Devitt (also on Lulu)

Two wheels on my wagon by Paul Howard

I didn't find "cycling the divide" the official guide book that useful as even by my meagre performance standards it was geared towards taking a long time to finish!

I agree. For the 2016 volume I remember that the editor struggled to get people to contribute. I know I found it hard to write something.

The Tour Divide has been a dream of mine for some time. I pick up the Cordillera every year. As others have said, some of it is just so so but there are some gems in there, real inspirational stuff. Ty Hopkins who's an exercise science professor wrote a good account too. He finished in 16days 7 hours in 2018 so not too shabby :-bd

just ordered that as well. Looks like I'll either be motivated to ride or frightened off by Dave's tales.
