Rigid forks for a Salsa Timberjack

Post by Mr conners »

Just a quick recommendation request.
The boss would like to run a set of rigids on her timberjack when/if we get to ride in Baja later this year. The good people at Ghyllside cycles said Surly karate monkey forks will be ok, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta very mooch.

Salsa forks if you want matchy-matchy:

Must be something here that fits from all these options:

Trek 1120 fork and it’s matching basket would be on my list

Cheers. Trek one looks good but its a bit pricey. I see the Salsa firestarter is discontinued, would that be a viable option?

Also consider what hub/axle you have. Converting a 15mm TA to QR is easy enough, if it's boost less so.

Have a look on the Salsa bikes archive, it'll say what length suss fork the TJ was designed for. You can work out your axle to crown measurement from that e.g. X mm fork with Y sag = rigid fork approx length.

Do you want the rigid for reliability or carrying purposes? If not then there's probably not a lot of weight saving between an alloy sus fork and hulking steel Surly fork!

I think the TJ can use a 120 - 140 fork, would a Travers Prong work?

Really they are replacing the sus forks for reliability. I’ve made some triple cage adapters to fit the sus forks which we use regularly (used to use regularly) but on extended trips I do prefer to use a rigid. Saying that we did cycle round Bolivia in 2007 with front suspension and it was fine.
