Custom made frame bag recomendations

Post by robbie »

I need to get a new frame bag manufactured for my specialised epic full sus. Looking for recomendations as Wildcat can't do them just now as they would have been my first choice after previous bags.
Would prefer to support and buy British if possible so any recomendations as the only other company I can think of are Alpkit.
Cheers

Restrap was going to be my choice since Wildcat weren't doing them but not gone through the process itself yet to give any feedback.

I have used wildcat in the past, they were great.

I have also used straightcut designs. Also great, though not cheap. Unfortunately that bike went back for a refund so I sold the bag.

I am awaiting my custom restrap turning up. I can feedback when it arrives if you like. It would appear to be very good vfm so far.

I had a bag for my spaceframe made by restrap it was very good, Nathan was a star and altered a bit for me and even sold me a crank cheap from his spares box, highly recommended

My friend is a sail maker and has just started up Spokeduk , they make all sorts of bikepacking bags and the website has just gone live.

We have been testing all the bags for the last couple of years they are pretty bombproof.
What's the worst than can happen?

Bag arrived, took about a month, which is just what they said it would take.

Seems very good. Great fit, everything is exactly where I drew it on the graph paper from the process. Seems high quality.
I would suggest that the restrap is very good vfm indeed at £95 for a medium level including divider and 'doc pocket'.

I haven't used it yet, for obvious reasons. But I am very happy with it.

oh, 260g just in case you care. Medium range bag on a size large frame.

Recently got a custom bag from Straight Cut Design. Expensive but great customer service and result!

I have some stem cell type bags from these guys and they’re really well made.

Thanks Guys
Have went with restrap. Straightcut looks really good and I'm sure the end result is top notch but I just can't justify the cost.

More thinking on this while I'm waiting on my template from Restrap.
I'm wanting to run a bladder in the frame bag so what is the best placement for this as need to get a divider put in.
options are
the rear of the bag sitting vertically inline with the seat tube or Laying flatish on the downtube.
Any pros and cons with each design? Can anyone recomend a bladder size. the bike is a specialized epic and I plan to have the bag take up the full space the downtube is approx 65mm wide.

Get a horizontal diveder Robbie parralel to the top tube. I run my bladder inside the bottom compartment and have the hose coming up and out of the divider near where the down tube bottle bosses are... then straight up to top tube and out of the opening... If you try to run the bladder vertical I reckon you'll lose usable space as well as needing a super long bladder... IMO

I was in the same boat when I needed frame bags.

I made some good friends with the young lads at Custom Merit Gear.

You send them a photo like this with a tape measure hanging vertically

Then they do the rest.

They are doing me a new shaped top tube bag next

Great workmanship from 2 such young lads.
