Do as I say, not as I do.

Post by lune ranger »

Earlier this week I went for a ride with my kids.
The 11 year old kept riding through all the puddles at the side of the road.
I warned her it was a bad idea as the puddles often hid pot holes and as we live in rural Devon those pot holes can be enormous.
Later in the ride a van was coming towards us so I indicated to the girl that we should ride into a passing place to make some room. On the way into the passing place I rode through a puddle. In the puddle was a pot hole. The pot hole was enormous. Over the bars and splat on the road I went. Slightly wobbly front wheel, bars out of line and bent brake lever.
Managed to ride home with an increasingly sore elbow which wouldn’t straighten or bend enough to touch my nose.
A quick trip to ED the day after shows a crack in the radial head
Way to start two weeks annual leave :-bd

Bad luck  . But, most interesting thing is what did daughter say after you'd warned her about that very eventuality

Mostly they just screamed - they love a bit of drama and know how to increase the amount of confusion at inappropriate times

The amount of times I’ve told mini-voodoo she’ll hurt herself by jumping of that, jumping into this etc and she doesn’t seems a little unfair! I feel like God/Allah/Buddha should really back me up sometimes other mini-voodoo is going to see me as a liar

Hope you mend soon, I broke my left elbow a few years ago in a crash , bloody hurts, two months off work as I used to climb for a living.
At least the kids will listen when you say “don’t do that you might hurt yourself” :-bd

I fell out of tree and snapped my elbow, my arm folded in half the wrong way. I spent a month in hospital with an open cast so that the docs could manipulate the joint. I was 7, so 50 years ago.

Second time I’ve done this injury. As far as fractures go it’s not too bad.
First time I did it I was ok to ride the 2018 BB 200 after 3 weeks and I got a Black Badge. Went for a run today without issue.

Well done Luke. Good way to make sure it sits firmly in the long term memory (for them, not you... you'll never learn)...
